I like the way it looks in picture 1. I like ALL floor in same direction. Won’t look like alley b/c rugs & furniture provide visual distraction. So it looks like an alley in hallway...well, it’s a hallway

So you want to make your area look longer and narrower so it doesn't look like a bowling alley?

Run it the long way.

Is this Karndean vinyl??? Is it glue down, floating or loose lay? If it is floating or loose lay you will have to ensure you are staying within the "maximum" run allowed. I would assume doorways will require a transition strip if this is floating.

Assuming this is vinyl, the joist support is not a consideration. You run the LONG edge of the plank in the same direction as the LONG RUN of the home. Simple as that. Ignore things like hallways, etc. The MAIN living space is THE MOST important part of your install. It is what the general public will see when they visit. These areas take precedence.

And just a reminder: Carpet hides the WORST subfloors in the WORLD. Please ensure the proper amount of subfloor preparation has been paid for AND you receive what you paid for. I would assume a price between $1/sf - $5/sf (the upper/lower range is rare....$2 - $3/sf is more common).

Have fun. Check your contract to ensure you have PLENTY of subfloor prep PAID FOR.

What is that? Is that sheet vinyl? Glue down vinyl doesn't like "weird" things underneath it. It likes plywood or cement.

Go long. It is the natural way to go anyways.

Run it lengthwise. You should normally walk with the grain of the wood rather than across it.
