Which direction should I run the herringbone floor?
Comments (3)By the sound of it you personally are installing said floor... ever done it before? At least do a practice run and DO decide on the optimal length of the boards. It’s essential to the process to plan ahead and have a VERY good mitre saw. I jumped in to the deep and and I did my first floor ever in HB. Needles to say it did involve taking a crowbar to a few duds before getting it right. ...And know the centre of your room. I decided on a “carpet” of HB with straight run planks bordering the perimeter. But do listen to SW... doing it all in this method will be overkill, especially in what appears to be a very small apartment or house based on the floor plan. And which way do your joists run? Never lay flooring parallel to a joist unless you’ve added an extra layer of ply as an additional subfloor (its code my friend). So lay the floor across the joist as much as possible. AND get a moisture meter. If the floor is not properly acclimated you will have “shrinkage”. Not a good thing....See MoreWhat direction should wood planks run?

Comments (4)black herringbone floor. you already have a lot of busy elements, but no other black. I'd also do a charcoal grout to keep it understated. you can do real black slate or do a black porcelain tile. (or a charcoal porcelain tile comes in all diff sizes I like this one For a clients bathroom, I did a dark charcoal 12x24 floor tile, and a charcoal 1x4 herringbone in the shower....See Morewhich direction should I run flooring?
Comments (17)Are you planning to replace the rest of the house with the same flooring you are using now? If so, you should consider two things: (1) It may be difficult to find that flooring in another year or so. You may want to buy all the floor now, or to wait on finishing the living room until you are ready to do it all. It looks like you may have removed the living room floor already, so you might need to put something cheap down so you're not just on concrete for a yar. (2) If the rest of the house dictates that flooring run in a different direction than the living room, you should consider running all the flooring in that direction. Even if that gives you a mismatch while the overall project (the floors) is in process....See MoreJohnson Flooring Co Inc
