Appliance pulls needed for these appliances?

Hi - I have the following paneled appliances in my new kitchen. I've heard conflicting advice from my contractor, cabinetmaker, and hardware salesperson about which ones need appliance pulls and which ones can just use regular drawer pulls. Any feedback about which ones need appliance pulls would be great!! thanks!

36" Subzero Fridge/Freezer - has a refrigerator door on top, and two freezer drawers below - I think all of these will need appliance pulls? Or do I just need the appliance pull on the top and can use regular drawer pulls on the bottom drawers?

24" Subzero fridge drawer and 24" freezer drawer - I've read that these don't need appliance pulls and can use regular pulls, but not sure if that's correct? If that's true, then why does the 36" freezer drawer need an appliance pull, just because it is bigger?

Miele Warming drawer - I think this can use a regular drawer pull? haven't seen any confirmation of this

Miele Dishwasher - I believe this can use a regular drawer pull from what I've read in Houzz comments

You will definitely want appliance pulls for the SZ refrigerator (door and drawers). Those doors are quite heavy and need a sturdier pull. The appliance pulls are bigger in diameter and have a deeper projection than a standard drawer pull. The rest of the appliances can use a standard pull. For undercounter appliances like the dishwasher and 24" fridge/freezer drawers, you don't want a pull that sticks out too far, so the deeper projection of an appliance pull would not be great. Also you want them to match the rest of your cabinetry so it all blends. I hope this helps!

Thanks Main Line! I wasn't sure why the 36" would need appliance pulls and the 24" ones wouldn't, but that's what I had been reading, so will go with that and keep my fingers crossed!

Real appliance pulls are significantly stronger than door pulls as are their screws. Some fridges just won't work well with a thinner pull (Sub zero for one) and my KA as well needs real appliance pulls. But a door with a seal that's not as strong might be ok. To market a pull as an appliance pull just because it's long would be a bit of a liability if someone damaged a pull or door due to a poorly constructed (for it's purpose) pull. DW's can be done with either, but I have to say I'm glad I used an appliance pull there as well. My pulls are pewter,which is a bit soft (I can bend the regular pulls by hand) and that also adds to the need for real appliance pulls. The same could be said for other metals or hollow core pulls.

From behind. That way the screw has metal to metal contact because it passes through the wood into the back of the handle or knob and threads into it. Also the screw head is opposed by the back of the panel it is passing through. Something screwed into a 3/4 wood panel will loosen and pull out over time. It took a good tug to open my Subzero door and drawers and same with the DW. If they had been front mounted pulls they would have eventually pulled out of the wood.

@cpartist - Ooh glass pulls and knobs - love that choice. I just saw a kitchen that had those this morning - what a coincidence. In another life I would have another kitchen with Jadeite touches - and then another kitchen with turquoise appliances, terrazzo floors and boomerang counters - or maybe recycled glass in concrete counters like the ones done by Ice out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It's pretty much an approach approach decision process which is the hardest to settle on. I know I will have pangs of omg what horrendous mess did I create when I see final installation but then it will be all good - fingers crossed :-) There is a Yiddish curse which (to paraphrase) is "May you be so rich that you have a hundred homes and each home shall have a hundred rooms and may you be so crazy that you run from room to room for the rest of your life :-). Of course curses are always better in Yiddish LOL.

“What brands make the best of each appliance??” It’s a great question, and there are other threads on this topic. I doubt the information has changed much over the last few years, except for the decline in the prominence of Miele. What auto maker makes the best car? It depends on how far you drive, how many people you need to fit in your car, and your budget. As @rebasheba points out, when buying appliances you need to take a similar, customized approach. What is best for you doesn’t include SubZero. You will find other higher end refrigerators roughly equivalent. I would absolutely buy a KitchenAid dishwasher before I bought a Bosch, and I would buy Thermador ovens, but then, I bought the SZ. I doubt you can make a wrong choice. It might be more useful to ask people what to steer clear of (Viking, Miele, Wolf ovens because they are still chipping). Whatever you decide, keep in mind all drawer microwaves are manufactured by Sharp, so they are all pretty much the same.
