Comments (52)Mantis, I did miss your question. Snidely Whiplash was hybridized by Mike Georges of Canada. I don't know much about him. We have heard him speak a couple of times. He has similar tastes to mine--teeth, eye and edges, and watermarks. We didn't buy Snidely Whiplash directly from him but we got it at the auction at the Can Am in 2016. I bet it is isn't available in the U. S., but I haven't looked. Mike maintains a website. His garden is called Quintessential Daylilies. That's really all I know except that buying Snidely Whiplash was a good idea. It's fertile and looks as if it likes it here. Nancy...See MoreU daylilies 2018
Comments (15)Sherry: How appropriate is your quote. As soon as I get out of this I'm going to make my eggs the right way- by making a cake-lol...... Signet: I like the purple Hanson, Utopia.........Nancy: Bob and I agree on the hot oranges. We both like to sizzle. Avedon: I like that Uncle Henry of Oz. How's it grow for you?.........Maryl...See MoreBest Budded and Branched Daylilies of 2018
Comments (3)Debra, can it really be that time of the year already? Say it isn't so....oh well. Well, I don't generally count buds but I do notice which are best. This inspired me to go check a few and see what I had more or less. Every year my winner is Purple Riot with 5 branches on almost every scape and 5-7 buds per branch or 25-35 buds total. [the mistaken AHS site claims it has 5 buds on 5 branches LOL. I sent them an email today to challenge that and offer a picture. Spiritual Corridor, with up to 20 buds on most scapes. New this year. Russian Rhapsody just slightly less than SC. It's best year ever, an old Munson. No clump shot, unfortunately. Always reliable, more buds than usual. Vintage Wine, the clump in front had 3 way branching and 15 or so buds. Another old Munson. It always performs well, this was a bit better than usual. Acquire the Fire, around 12-15 per scape, 3-way branching. Prairie Blue Eye, another oldie, had 15 on 3 way branching on a couple of scapes, 10 on others. Many of my high performers of past years-Prismatic, Karen's Curls & a couple of others-only had about 10 this year. Brad...See MoreBest Yellow Daylilies of the 2018 Season
Comments (41)Thank you for liking my seedling! It is still too new to judge its merits but it certainly has potential. Wow, looking back at this thread again, I see some gorgeous garden shots! I am drooling over all this loveliness. Sherry, though Stella D'oro flowers maybe plain, your placement of it among the hostas and heucheras is perfection! It elevates this daylily to first class and showcases its flowers and foliage beautifully! Julia, I love that combo of Enter Laughing with the purple coneflowers in the foreground and the purple flowers in the background. Wow! Too lovely for words. Celeste, Cheddar Cheese is just marvelous in that group shot! I also love your combo of Living in Amsterdam with the blue clematis next to it and the coral daylily in the background. Wow! Nancy, LOVE the gold shade on Tidewater Elf and the beautiful poly It's Miller Time. Kate, your NOID is just spectacular! I love the pic with it blooming in the foreground and the other daylilies with their blooms popping in the background. It is like a sea of blooms!...See Morehoosier_nan (IN z5b/6a)
