Best Pinks of the Season 2018
Comments (81)There are no photo posts from me; I'm guessing they disappeared or never posted correctly, as I did comment above on all of yours. Wind Frills awesome as usual. A bit short this and last year, so I divided them. Chance Encounter did extremely well in spite of being split last year. Becky Lynn, a great performer almost every year. Runners up next post....See MoreBest Coral Daylilies of the 2018 Season
Comments (17)I don't seem to have many in this color range. The first two below are some of my very best daylilies..... TREASURE OF THE SOUTHWEST This one is one of my absolute favorites of my daylilies and I seem to take it's photo the most....it and Jerry Hyatt. (I found at least a dozen shots I took this summer). There are all the colors of a sunset in this one. It makes a tremendous clump that blooms endlessly with multiple scapes and buds, is super-robust and healthy and the substance holds up in the heat and the cold. In the heat it has more coral tones..... in cool weather it takes on more pink tones..... either way, it's gorgeous! SOUTH SEAS This golden oldie can not be beat for both brilliant color, reliable performance, hardiness and vigor. I will never be without this one. VT BETSY Not well known or widely grown, this Olallie late-bloomer will keep pumping out blooms dozens at a time well into September. Narrow grass-like foliage and dainty stems with fluttering blooms that remind me of butterflies in the breeze. RUNNER UPS..... This one could potentially be a favorite in future years. It's relatively new so it hasn't proven itself but the color has the 'wow factor'..... SMOKY MOUNTAIN AUTUMN BITTERSWEET DESTINY This is a daylily I tucked away in an obscure part of the garden and I always mean to move it where it can shine because the color is wonderful....See MoreBest Patterned Daylilies of the 2018 Season
Comments (26)All the patterned daylilies posted are amazing. I especially like Bow Tie Affair and Stenciled Infusion. Karen, your seedlings are lovely. I hope they have good plants under those beautiful flowers. Here are my best patterns. Geometric Wizard continues to be one of my favorites. It does very well here for a southern-bred daylily. Curious Cutie is from the same hybridizer and I have often wondered if they share genetics. Its biggest fault is that it turns to mush in rain, but Geometric Wizard does not. I Don't Kid is doing well here. The third flower in the background is Purple Maze which is very similar in looks. I love the delicate coloring on Ink and Pink. Four Beasts in One is not well established yet, but I like the looks of it. Oceans Eleven has been in the garden for many years. I love the eye. It often has a metallic look. Here is Get Jiggy in our garden. This is the best pattern we have seen, but we haven't seen it often. Of course, if patterns really show best in cooler weather, we aren't going to see many in west central Indiana. I know I have gone over my limit, but I have to post a pattern we found in a seedling. I didn't expect it as neither parent has a pattern. Nancy...See MoreBest Miniatures of the 2018 Season
Comments (18)I'm not BIG on miniatures....pun intended. I started out with the small flowered Siloams and then collected more minis when I first started with daylilies. But soon my affection turned to the large blooms and I gave away a majority of the small ones. I did keep my Siloam collection and have about 30 of them. A few other miniature daylilies have stayed. I will show the best of these in my garden. SPACECOAST TINY PERFECTION The name is apt. Just the most perfectly formed petite blooms on a tidy, flourishing plant. SILOAM TINY TIM When I got this one, my son Tim was just a boy and I now realize that this daylily and he were both 'born' the same year.....1984. I wasn't even into daylilies at the time but I saw it at a nursery and had to get it because of the name. It's tiny for sure, but just like my Tim, it still makes me smile. BAHAMA BUTTERSCOTCH I got this from our forum friend, Nancy in KY a few years back and it multiplies like the Energizer Bunny to the point that I have given it away to countless people and it still is a huge clump. It is always covered in these bright and cheerful flowers and is super-hardy in the north. Those are my top 3 and here are quite a few deserving runner-ups: LIL' RED WAGON Tiny perfectly formed bright red flowers on a healthy plant that blooms early and profusely. SILOAM FLOWER GIRL SILOAM APPLE BLOSSOM SILAOM SHOWGIRL GEORGE JETS ON TODD MONROE I have a few more I'll post after this just because I don't think many of us grow a lot of the miniatures. I won't post all my Siloams since there are just too many..... but will feature them when we do the daylily alphabet in January....See Moresamhain10 - 5a
