It doesn't matter. I like how you have it sketched--so that it lines up with a feature in the hood. It just presents itself as "The tile is yay high all around but you only see it here where there aren't cabinets" instead of "I filled the gaps with tile".

That looks good. I would never tile higher than a doorway.

Ours will end at the bottom edge of the hood. That's about 30" over the counter top.

Looks like you have the hood sketched in as the same height as the wall cabinets.

I would run the tile under the hood all the way accross that wall at whatever height the stove calls for.

I have a very similar kitchen layout but with uppers on either side of the hood and a space between the uppers and hood. The hood is about the same shape as yours, ~30" above the cooktop and high ceilings. We did the tile just like you have it drawn in your sketch with the tile going up to the transition on the hood between the vertical surfaces and the tapered surfaces. I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

Forgot to mention the vertical surfaces of the hood are trimmed in the backsplash tile also so both backsplash and hood tile terminate at the same height.

With that style hood, you usually tile under the hood like your drawing shows.

I have this same dilemma right now. I'm going to add shelves to either side of hood and thinking I will tile up to the bottom shelf on either side of hood and then the whole area under the hood. I can't go the same height all the way around because of windows and I didn't want to do that anyway.

Here's a picture where they ran the backsplash slightly higher under the hood but not all the way up. I like it better than I thought I would

Mocxr, how high is your hood from the cooktop? In the photo it looks very high but it could be the photo.

OP, I like what you have planned for the tile which is similar to what aktillery did and to me it looks great.

cpartist - 34. I remember I discussed this with CP but I can't remember why the height was chosen. Could have been inspiration photos from Devol Kitchens that I sent the KD.
