Where should the backsplash end relative to hood chimney / ceiling?
Comments (8)I would stop it at the hood. I've never seen tile go above cabinets to the ceiling. Well, I have seen it a time or two and I don't like the floating look. You'll also have the floating look over your peninsula to deal with because your wall cabinet ends a bit too short of the end. You can't stop the tile directly under the cabinet with that much counter extending beyond. I might put a shelf over the peninsula and tile to the bottom of the shelf. Then put another shelf about a foot above that one. You can only do this if you have enough length between the cabinet and end of the peninsula--a 12" shelf won't work, but 15" or 18" would. You might be able to tile to the window and down to the floor to achieve this. It looks like that's what they did here. Here's another way to extend tile out to the surrounding mouldings by adding a matching chair rail at the top of the tile over the peninsula....See MoreNeed help with backsplash, where do we end it?
Comments (8)I wouldn't take the tile up to the vaulted ceiling even though it would look fine. It's a lot of work and you wouldn't get enough bang out of it to make it worthwhile. Usually the tile goes to the bottom of the hood but I've seen photos where it goes part way up the hood and that looks nice too. I would bring it a few inches above the door pull on the left, about midway of the hood section. I think it'd look really nice with a different colored pencil liner capping it there--much better than putting the liner at the base of the hood. What color is your liner? I'd do beadboard above the butcher block. I really like how it's mixed with ceramic tile here to create a variety of textures:...See MoreWhere to end tile backsplash by window/peninsula
Comments (2)move the switches if you have to (see last picture) or do a multi 4-way box. go all the way up to the ceiling, over the window, and stop where the peninsula cabinet ends, or take it all the way out to the countertop. if you do that, take it all the way up and stop w/the door border. you can choose to stop at counter height(over to the door trim) or take it all the way to the floor. too me, it looks like you ran out of tile if you stop half way up the window (you don't have the much to do above it anyway) or if you stop under the first shelf. white subway is cheap. buy more and do the entire thing....See MoreWhere do we end the tile backsplash?
Comments (2)This could be a candidate for tiling the entire wall, up to the door. Thinking outside of the box: using one tile horizontally to the end of the window, then a coordinating tile vertically behind the hood....See MoreAnglophilia
