My washer drain pipe is backing up along with basement drain

We live in a 1959 ranch-style home and our washer is located in the basement. Its' drainpipe is about three feet from where the basement drain is (and we also have exterior drain tile feeding into that basement drain). I've noticed for awhile that the water would sometimes back up out of the drainpipe during the drain cycle, but it wasn't that bad. Now it is spilling over the edges, and the basement drain also begins to fill with gurgling water until the washer's pump kicks in. Then everything goes down and it drains just fine.

I don't think it's a blockage in our main sewer line because nothing else is backing up. Also, our kitchen sink upstairs feeds into this pipe, and it also backs up when we put a large amount of water down at once until we run the garbage disposal. I am wondering if the two are connected and if so, what could be causing all of this. Thanks!
