Light sensitivity of Santa Teresa Lemon
Comments (19)Susanne, that is a lovely tree and the fruit is lovely also. What selection of Femminello cultivar do you have? Laura and I are both patiently waiting to get ripe fruit off of our trees and Laura asked the same questions that I am interested in learning about your trees. My ST lemons fell off ( last winter) just before turning yellow and they were a bit under developed, but the scent of the rind and the bit of juice I did get from two fruit was excellent. Like you, I used it in a dressing, but with olive oil and honey. Thank you for sharing your pictures and dressing recipe. It sounds lovely! :) Thank you, Silica and Mole. I appreciate the feedback. Laura, that ST is lovely and you are right, it is wide, but lovely all the same! :)...See MoreBouquet de fleurs on C-35 from FW
Comments (33)Pip, I totally understand where you are coming from. It is my understanding that FW used to use flying dragon rootstock and no longer do that I know of. Someone can correct me if I am wrong. On FW's website : "Dwarf Citrus are small trees that produce normal sized fruit. Four Winds uses orchard proven, fruit producing varieties that are grafted on cultivar specific dwarfing rootstocks. Our premier Dwarf Citrus are grafts, not self rooted cuttings." "Dwarfing is achieved by using specific cultivar varieties. Grown in the ground they create a highly productive tree averaging eight to ten feet. They are smaller when grown in a container." I believe the height also depends on the cultivar variety. I purchased a Marumi Kumquat from FW's this spring and the 2016 printed tag has "Semi Dwarf" printed on it.. That surprised me.. Very confusing.. I purchased a good variety of citrus from Four Winds last year and the tags were printed in different years. The Bearss Lime tag was printed back in 2007. At the top it says, "The Original Dwarf Citrus. " The other tags are from 2011-2012.."True Dwarf Citrus....See MoreBizarre Leaf Drying / Wilting Santa Teresa Lemon
Comments (56)Kendra got back to me and below is her response, I guess it could just be a coincidence that both Pac's and my tree are sharing similar symptoms at the same time and the wind damage is what hurt my tree. I don't know what else to do if that's not the case, I don't know how I would prove its dry root rot (or something else) and that it had it before I received the tree. I guess we will just wait and see if my tree recovers. I am reluctant to order another tree from them if its going to have the same problem but there doesn't really seem to be another supplier so I don't really have a choice if I want this variety. Here's hoping this tree makes it through winter. Pac how is your tree looking? Hello there, Thank you for sending over pictures it helps us understand what you are seeing. I’m thinking that coming from our growing houses into a new environment and then getting blasted by some wind has cause this damage. Wind damage on citrus trees often looks like this. I wouldn’t be surprised if these leaves turn brown and crispy, unfortunately it may get worse before it gets better. So if that happens the leaves will probably fall off. You may even want to help them along. As long as your stems/branches stay green and have no die back, and it may take a while but the tree should push some new growth. The Santa Theresa’s are very hardy lemons. Because you live in Oregon this tree is going to need an adjustment period but it should bounce back. Keep us updated!! Comments (13)Nancy - funny that you mention "Some people have inflos when getting ready to put them down for dormancy" because that happened to mine. This past year was its 3rd year from a cutting and 1st year to bloom but it didn't wake up until late and finally bloomed mid-August. The inflo was still going strong when I brought it inside in October and by the end of November I was like - you're done. Snipped the leaves to the petioles and put the plumie in the dark, unfinished/cooler part of my basement for storage. Even there, it kept trying to put out leaves (completely yellow at that point due to no light) and blooms. The inflo finally dropped off at the end of February right before I moved the plant back to the finished part of my basement near my citrus to start waking up (which I hope it will do now... yikes). lol I'll be repotting it this year too. Before storage - After snipping leaves - And regarding the ST - I keep missing the pop up threads on its availability here. I never got chance to check the forum yesterday due to monitoring the storm here (other hobby...lol). But then this time of year is probably the worst to try to order anything for delivery. April is probably better....See MoreSammers510
