Hello! Your floors are SO pretty. You might be thinking you don't want to cover them up. You don't have to! But if you do want to add a rug, it is conventional design to have it relate to the seating in the group. By that, the chairs and the sofa should be on the rug, or at least their front legs on the rug. Trust me, your beautiful floors will still show. You probably need at least an 8X10 rug, but that's a guess based on the image.

I agree with Patricia's idea; if not zebra, then some other asymmetrical shape that won't look as if it should have been bigger and placed under the furniture. Beautiful room!

Leggy seating always looks better when completely on the rug and "grounded." Skirted seating can work if just the front 1/3 is on the rug. I would say the rug needs to be 75% as wide as the windows. Measure that out and then check online to see what standard size rugs include that length or within a foot of it.

Your lovely room right now looks at though it just has some random pieces of nice furniture sitting there, and it not only looks disjointed but also lacks warmth and coziness. Since your furniture looks fairly traditional I would suggest a pale Oriental rug in the size deco suggested. Your furniture has a lot of legs and needs to be grounded with a large rug.

I love the "Zebra" look.

I like the idea of a rug for your room. Just factor in the lines of your grout as well as the tiles being placed at an angle when considering the rug. A subtle pattern or solid color would likely be your best choices.

LOVE your floors. I say play around with some rugs and see what you like. I am so tired of these "rules"...I've seen plenty of space with the furniture legs not on the rug and it looks just fine.

I like the zebra idea, but it may be a little busy with all the legs and all the lines.

It's a beautiful rug and I think the color works, but the pattern competes with your tile IMO. I agree that the area rug needs to be larger. What is that size you have now?

The size is 6'7" x 9'6". The larger size is 7'8" x 10'10". I like the rug but I don't love it. Such a dilemma!

I don't think the pattern conflicts with your tile. However, there are SO many rugs out there, try esale rugs, rugsusa, etc. and find one you LOVE!

I think the rug you picked looks good... it seems to sort of repeat the tile. But if you want something different, keep with the same idea of the rug you have... no border. Border will compete with the tile. I think you want the rug to look sort of organic, like it just is an extension of the tile.

The recent frontgate catalog had a room with a small rug (like a 5x8) at an angle. It was just under one corner of the sofa and under the coffee table. It got my attention because I have a small rug that I love the design but couldn’t figure out how to use it. Just a thought.
