Question re: banquette seating under windowsill
Comments (8)sorry to say that I rejected just such a planning option due to windows backing a banquette. The built in banquette would look great until someone went through the window backwards :-( or no one would sit with their backs to the windows in the winter :-( or we kept losing guests behind the banquette window drapes :-) We will be going with regular chairs. Comments (3)Do some research on radiator enclosures before the redesign. Although the item is termed a radiator, in reality, more heat is transferred by convection than radiation. If a radiator is to adequately heat the space, it needs appropriate air flow - cool air in at the bottom, warm air exiting at the top...See MoreHELP with kitchen layout!
Comments (18)Here's a quick rearrangement of the rooms--kitchen in front, dining in the back. With minimum (42-43") aisles, you would have room for an island without seating, except for the overhang at the end. Please note that I am suggesting the stool on the back only for your child, and for your convenience--it would need to be tucked under when not in use, since the aisle is just under the NKBA minimum recommendation for an aisle with seating: '8. Traffic Clearance at Seating: If traffic passes behind the seated diner, allow at least 36 inches to edge past or at least 44 inches to walk past.' I drew a stud bay pantry, 6" deep, for canned goods, jars, and boxes. It could also hold extra cups and glasses, kids' cups and bowls, extra flatware for holiday dinners--lots of stuff. There is also shallow storage on the back of the island, which could be used for cutting boards, platters, or baking sheets. The dish drawers on the end open toward the DW for easy loading--the clean-up area is separate from the prep spaces, which would make it easy for a helper to load and unload the DW, or set the table, while you are cooking. There is also a pantry on the end by the fridge, for larger items, convenient to the garage entry. If you need separate cooktop and ovens, the larger pantry can become a shallow pantry on the side of the fridge, opening toward the DR,and ovens can go on the left side of the fridge. To make this plan work, the clean-up sink is off-center to the window, so that might be something that you or your DR can't accept, if symmetry is important.cindyandmocha's stud bay pantry...See MoreWhat chandelier would look good above my kitchen table.
Comments (13)Sammy, great idea but I have this thing about glass tables. I just replaced the one we had because I couldn’t live with it. And I wanted to have the banquette built. The new table was bought online about 4 months ago. Can’t return/exchange. However, I think I am getting closer to what may work and I do like the looks of the lights you sent. Def. will look for more of that type....See MoreBonnie Clowney
