Siding Color for Orange Brick

My Fiance and I recently replaced the siding on our house and have run into a color dilemma. Our house has a combination of both orange/tan brick with siding in the front and rear sides.

When we purchased the house, the siding was a cream color in the front and and orange color in the back.

We kind of want to give our house a modern update with some bold colors, but cannot seem to figure out what goes well with the somewhat dated brick.

Some of the colors we've had in mind include a chocolate brown for the siding, a cream white for the trim, and a dark blue for the front door.

Does anyone have any idea if this color scheme would work with our house? Or can you provide any other suggestions that might look great?

Hi Joey, I think the chocolate brown would be a mistake. A couple thoughts for the siding would be the very lightest color from the brick or a light gray/green (sage) that can often work nicely with orange brick. Your roof looks fairly neutral which helps. The amount of siding in front is minimal. I actually think the current color looks good...like it was pulled from the lighter brick color.

One thing to think about is removing the taller section of the hedge in front. It would place more focus on your front entry.

A very neutral beige siding with no yellow, peach, pink or gray undertones. Hold white next to your siding choices and you should be able to determine the undertones. Choose a door color after the siding has been replaced. Maybe a brown door? Your choice of blue might work, but I'd wait to decide. It is a nice house.

I usually like a color scheme like this for brick it complimants the brick nicely. IMO you need a new front dooe I don’t think that one suits the house.just plain glass no grids would be better I would also paint the garage door the same as the siding.The shutters are actually the wrong sixe nad i would remove them for painting anyway and see if you like it better without them. A nice walkway from the road to the front door is always a nice addition tocurb appeal with some good landscaping/

Shutters are a no go on this house. None of the windows are appropriate for shutters. I'm in the don't paint the brick group. You take a no maintenance product and turn it into a long term maintenance issue. Some ideas: A darker color on the siding that doesn't emphasize the difference between the orange brick and the rest of the house would be a good option. A new front door that was not a Victorian leaded glass style (think Mid Century Modern MCM) would also be an upgrade. A porch over the front door would add some depth to the front façade of the house. Pulling all the landscaping (including the woody shrubs on the side of the house) and redoing it. 5) Stain the fence between the house and the garage to tie them together more. 6) Paint the garage door a color that makes it less obvious. Painting the garage navy would make it the focal point, not really the objective here. Also navy would be too harsh on the house itself. Beige through sage and some grays will work. Think blend not pop for the garage. The house should pop.

If you want to go more contemporary and considering how many colors are in your brick, I would paint your trim and siding the same color, and that includes the wood porch posts at the corners. I actually think you could go fairly dark, but stick to warm or slightly warm neutrals. I would recommend beiges and taupes, as mjconti said staying away from peach/orange tones. You may find that if you lean ever so slightly green in the taupe family (not actual green, but a green undertone) it could help to neutralize the color of your brick.

Excellent advice above! It's a very pretty house, and the brick is very nice. I don't think that a green/taupe/gray (do I mean Sage? LOL) color would *neutralize* the brick color, but maybe balance or compliment it and would accent or emphasize the depth and pattern of the brick. If you like blue for the front door, you might use a really dark, subdued navy...The comment about the shrubs reminded me of something a friend once told me. She had just moved into an early 60s vintage house and took out the entire row of shrubs in front of the picture window. She said that every time she looked at that thing, she kept thinking that her house had a long green mustache.

Am I the first one to suggest painting the brick to just make the color go away so you don't have to deal with it?

Regarding color for vinyl siding and the 2 wood posts, IF you choose 'beige', you might consider painting the door the same 'beige'. At any rate, choose a door color after you replace the vinyl. I'd never paint your brick. I've seen it done on victorian or older style homes and it is ok, but it seems like a mistake for your home. I'm noticing the brick flower box. And shrubs. There are ways to add color in your shrubs, flowers to detract from the orange brick. Landscaping can do wonders.
