OK what time does that kick in? If we wake up after midnight as we often do for our midnight bathroom run? Or when we actually get up in the morning?

Any time after midnight...just the first words of the first day of the month.

For new year's eve we say "rabbit, rabbit, happy new year!"

I've never heard of this before. Does it apply to the first of "every" month, or just for February. And if I get up to go potty and speak to the cat, does that count? LOL

We say “rabbits rabbits rabbits”. My Mum had us doing this as kids. Anytime after midnight. Sometimes my husband will wake up just before midnight and watch the clock til it turns to 12:00 and say it over and over until I mumble it. We used to sneak little presents under the pillow of whoever said it.

Funny, I read that in some book when I was a kid, decades ago, and still do it when I think of it! Nice to know I’m not the only one!

woke up a while ago and just logged on and so thankful for seeing this thread. I know I saw it yesterday and commented but I totally forgot. Good news- haven't spoken ..... so I just said it out loud. Here's to a good February!

DH and I both did our rabbit rabbit...well, I always say Pele Pele Rabbit Rabbit as I'm one of those foolish tourists who took a piece of lava off the big island when I was there. Lots of bad things happened all at once until I started paying my monthly tribute to her...since then, things quieted down to a normal state of catastrophe.

I said it at 2:36 this morning. Then my husband said it.

drat! I never see this until it's too late! My problem, not yours since you posted it in time. I'm merely a dolt

We both blew it!!! When I woke up, I said "Hi Bud" to our cat on the bed. I went to the bathroom and said Rabbit, rabbit, but of course it was too late.

I hollered at hubby to say Rabbit Rabbit. He said Why? I said Just say Rabbit rabbit. Again, "Why?" Never mind, we'll do it March.

I think I called to DH about where he was first before I said rabbit rabbit. Darn didn't know the rule of it being the first thing coming out of my mouth. Oh well will try again in March. :-). Best of luck to everyone else.

I was up and down all night with my sinuses and of course I forgot to do it.

I yelled Rabbit Rabbit to my hubby but he forgot to yell it back.

I forgot. I think my first words this morning, as it is most mornings, to my husband...."Your shirt is in the closet" or "Turn off the light." Or to the dogs as I tried to navigate my way to the bathroom...."Get out of the way!"

No 'wabbits' here, but I, too, was up and down with sinus, Raven. Do you have Vog there, too? We're having South winds through the islands; they bring the noxious gasses from Big Island's active volcano up through the islands. (Annie, maybe you could step up the homage to Pele?)

This was on my FB this morning...doubt if you can read post, but since rabbit rabbit brings good fortune, perhaps "hippo hippo" brings an abundance of desserts!
