Give up kitchen table for island seating? No other inside eating area.
Comments (41)Wow, what a gorgeous place you have there! With the way the kitchen ceiling height changes in dining area to the vaulted, I was not sure if that would look strange in your KD's design that goes all the way across the longer back wall. I just played with my app by cropping things from BB's peninsula plan to move stuff around. Here is what I came up with. You could keep a small prep sink under that one small kitchen window since the plumbing is already there, but I moved the main sink to the pennisula. I moved the couch to the other wall and removed one of the club chairs because I wanted to get furniture away from the slider. I'm not sure if a round table is a good idea or not, but just thought how nice it would be for games and also faces more towards the views and the TV. I am sure it is not to scale either. Oh well, just throwing this out there anyways to spark ideas. :-)...See MoreNeed new ideas for "boring" wall behind eating table
Comments (13)I haven't read all of the comments so I might be repeating someone else's ideas. I love the buffet with the chandelier. I'm going to give you two options. Least expensive: Remove deco items for both options. Paint the table, chairs and mirror the same black as the living room. Choose a rug. If you want color, you can choose almost anything since you are not coordinating with any color in the living room. If you go with color, I would get maybe a persian with max 3 colors. If no color, then a black and white pattern. You can go with a strong primary color, or, I noticed a light blue chair in the living room, you could even go with a blue and white pattern rug which would look great with the wood buffet. Recover the chair seats, and get a roman type shade for the window, to coordinate with the rug. (If you want to do this I can go into more detail about how to choose fabric) I know they are probably on the outs at the moment, but I wouldn't even hate shorty curtains for the window with some kind of edge banding or color blocking to make them look current. Remove some of the beading on the chandelier to make it less traditional/fancy. Then bring in deco. From the looks of your living room, you won't need much help. Second option. New table, chairs and rug. Art for over buffet, with art lamp above. Buffet lamps. Window covering. New chandelier. So, basically keep the buffet, scrap the rest. If you do this, coordinate with the living room colors. I'm curious how the dining room flows with the living room considering the stark color difference. I would want to make the two connect a little better. If you do a color rug in the dining room, you could bring some of those colors in the living room. So, that's my 2 cents. I really love the style in the living room and to make further recommendations (as if I haven't said enough...) it would be helpful to see more photos of the living/dining room and the kitchen. Lastly, It wouldn't cost much more to do option 2 over option 1. I think you definitely need a new dining set....See MoreWhat table shape for eat in kitchen ?
Comments (14)I would choose an oval pedestal table, because your dining area seems to be wide. A rectangular table will work too, but round is easier to walk around and you can often fit more chairs around a oval shape than rectangular. I think your windows could use some kind of solar roller or roman shade instead of valances since your kitchen seems to be more modern rather than traditional. If you can figure out a way to add mid-level shaded lighting on either side of the back window wall, that would fill the emptiness on either side of the window. Mid-level lighting would also give you nice shadow lines on the shiplap if that's what I'm seeing back there. I think I would paint the shiplap and other walls to match your cabinetry, but paint it in different sheens. One of the advantages of painting the walls white would be that the crown above the shiplap would blend in more with the shiplap. Add color with accessories....See MoreEat-in kitchen. Time for a new chandelier and drapes.
Comments (12)Yep. I definitely see how that window seat seems forced. It’s a challenging room. Problem is I love having a couch on the other side for comfort, a view ,and a place for our pets and kids. If I were selling the house I would ditch the couch and put the table in the middle of the room. But with four boys, a number of dogs and cats it feels like this is the right choice for how we live. Also putting a table in the center of the room would be annoying for us to walk out on to the deck and grill that we use almost daily....See Morecrmum
