What worked for me was signing up for no robo calls, the phone rings once and not again when it is a robo call .. it's wonderful.

How about robo texts? Does it work for those, too? My husband gets a dozen per day, always from different numbers and the message is "Hi" . Nothing else, just Hi. Drives him nuts.

As I clicked on this thread, my phone rang with "out of area" on the display (junk call)! I'd say that was a surprising coincidence except that I get dozens of those calls per day so the chance of my phone ringing with a robocall while I'm doing anything at all is pretty good.

If Nomorobo is available to you, be sure to use it. It is life-changing, although I am getting increasing number of spoof calls. If I do not recognize the number, I don't answer. I also don't answer when the Caller ID says Out of Area and the area code is the same as mine!

If it's a real call, they'll leave a message. I rarely get messages....

DLM, your husband should be able to easily block numbers with his cell phone. I use Verizon and it is easy to do.

Another reason to hate on AT&T. Not available for our landline, which is where we get most of our robo calls. I do get some phishing calls on my cell but ignore most calls I don’t recognize.

We have a landline as well and every day we get several no-message calls. We always screen our calls because of that.

I understand there's a scam where all they're trying to do is find out if yours is a legit ph. number, so they just need someone to pick up.

Beware of calls that try to make you pick up out of curiosity. Hubby says he's heard a few w/ someone saying "Hello?... Hello?". They can be phishing or scammers.

I always decline or ignore unknown numbers on my mobile phone.

Nomorobo doesn't block those? What does it block?

Nomorobo blocks calls that are from a robo (computer-generated) calling system. It does not blocks calls that come directly from a person.

I thought the "out of area", and "out of area" with a local area code were all robo calls. They aren't?

I get them mostly at work, but I do not answer calls if I do not recognize the phone number. If it happens to be someone I do want to talk with, they leave a voice mail message and I call them back, but most of the time they are robots. I very seldom get them on my cell phone, less than one a week, and so they are easy to ignore. I turn my cell phone off in the evening about 8:00 PM and turn it back on the next morning, to help save battery life. Sometimes I forget to turn it back on, but I don't get that many calls anyway.

Nomorobo doesn't block "spoof" phone calls. For instance, I constantly get calls that appear to be from a local college. If I were to answer, it would be some sort of sales call or scam, not the college at all. I also was getting them from my lawn care company's number. It's infuriating.

Nomorobo does block calls from robocallers, so if the Caller ID says IRS (ha ha) it will block the call. Hope that makes sense.
