I'm starting to get the Medicare mail. More annoying is the spam calls. Over a dozen days.

I haven’t verified it, but I read somewhere a couple of years ago that all of the ”direct marketing mail,” what we call junk, actually helps keep the cost of postage down.

Today I got 2 pieces of mail that actually needed my attention; the local newspaper, which can no longer afford hand delivery; 3 or maybe 4 catalogs; an invitation to a political fund-raiser for someone I don’t support; and a package from Amazon. Oh, and a notice from my broker to go online and look at something. I signed up to get everything online from my broker, but they still send me a notice when something has been posted to one of the accounts. 🤦🏻‍♀️

There are ways to stop some of the junk mail you receive.

I get way too much also! By the time I throw it all away, I may get one or none, piece of mail I need.

I'd be happy just to get mail. We have sporadic mail delivery because of a shortage of post office personnel where we live. It's sad and disturbing. We have a mailbox at the end of our driveway. I used to put things in it I wanted to send by mail and put the flag up, but I can't depend on that anymore. So I take outgoing mail directly to the post office. Not sure when or if this will be resolved.

Yes, we do. It's pitiful what has happened to our postal system. Despite the paperless digital world, there is still good reason for sending and receiving paper mail.

My theory is that this didn’t show up until I changed a word to carp. I know this place is being sanitized to its death but that’s a bit much if it is the case.

Much of that mail includes a pre-paid envelope that no one pays for until it is used. I make sure it gets used. I put all the ripped up contents of the envelope I opened into the prepaid envelope and send it back. As mentioned above, It keeps the post office in business. There are times I mix it up a bit and send envelope A's content to envelope B if it's a particularly busy junk mail day. It's my tiny protest and better their trash bins than mine!!

Same here Seagrass. The USPS used to be the model of dependability and quality service. Now I can't trust them to deliver my mail on any consistent basis.

I have switched everything over to online statements and direct debit/ACH transfers for payments, because I've lost count how much of my mail my local post office has lost/misplaced/threw out/whatevertheheck they do with it all.

There were a few years they were only spotty around the December holidays. But now they are awful year around. I use them as little as possible. If they went belly up tomorrow I'm not sure I'd even miss them.

What we really need is for USPS management decisions to be made by experienced, competent professional managers and not by career politicians.

Yes, a lifetime of political postal service mismanagement has led to the decline and fall of what was and should still be a viable, quality operation. I doubt it ever will be again though with our state of paralytic, political incompetence. I will bite my tongue now lest I say something at all stimulating that might render me permanently banned from this place. 😒

We receive very few items by US mail that are personal. Yearly Property tax bills, end of year tax info and a greeting card now and then. We haven’t renewed most magazines because they are now 85% advertising.

Not counting Christmas cards, which have gotten fewer, I probably used fewer then 10 stamps last year.

There is no way the postal service can continue without a major overhaul. Is there really a need for Saturday delivery?

The mail has been a godsend for the elderly folks in my life these past two years. You get to a certain age, and you've "been there done that" with all the tech, you want the peace and quiet and non radiation emitting paper stuff, although paper pollutes . . . and I'm typing this on a computer . . . but as for the junk stuff, horrid. Not to mention all the junk e-mails and calls hubs gets because he just gives out his info willy nillyi. Much of it Medicare related. Pft. Kind of a bummer when all my mail is usually junk, all my calls are sales, and all my calls, e-mail and fb posts are ads of some type . . .

I still correspond via post occasionally, particularly with older folks. I find it a great hobby. I also don't find the virtual world any less fraught with disorganization and problems than the paper trail world, and sometimes I just want to stare at paper that is not glowing in some way!! I'm even getting back to my address book. A prolonged electrical outage this summer snapped me back to the wisdom, elegance and peace of some of the old ways . . . lol!

I'm a graphic designer and have questioned a few of my clients why they still want mailers in this day and age. The answer is always the same: believe it or not, they actually work. Even for non-profits working on tight budgets. Sigh.

The mailers I get that make me the most furious are the ones with thick lamination that can't even be recycled. For what? So your crappy mailer seems "classy" somehow? (they're not even well designed, SMH.) Even worse is this one company that offers a "no catalogs" form on their website and then completely ignores it. The punchline is they tout themselves as being really sustainable, LOL.

Most of our mail is junk mail these days as I have tried to as much as I can to switch to online statements and billing and removed us from many catalogs, mailing lists, etc. I have noticed, though, that even the amount of junk mail we get has also gone down significantly. For years I was drowning in paper between four kids‘ worth of needed paperwork as well as bills, etc. It is nice not to have that stack of papers taunting me from the corner of my counter.

I don't get that much - I must not be very popular. Most of the junk mail we get is from realtors, not counting the newspaper style flyers, and those really bother me because they take up so much space in our mailbox.

In Cathedral City, if I do not put our mail on hold while we are not there, the mailbox will get filled with newspaper flyers - and nothing else. I do not think that there is a way to stop those from being delivered, other than putting mail on hold. Sometimes I have mail forwarded temporarily, but I always have the fear that something important might get lost.
