What kind of vitamins can I give?
Comments (2)What kind of soil are the roses growing in? If you feed the soil, if the soil is a good, healthy soil your plants will be strong and healthy and better able to ward off plant diseases. I have found that either of these mixtures, 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 1 quart of water or a 50/50 mix of fat free milk and water, will help control Black Spot. Contact your local office of the Purdue USDA Cooperative Extension Service about having a good, reliable soil test done and also dig in with these simple soil tests, 1) Structure. From that soil sample put enough of the rest to make a 4 inch level in a clear 1 quart jar, with a tight fitting lid. Fill that jar with water and replace the lid, tightly. Shake the jar vigorously and then let it stand for 24 hours. Your soil will settle out according to soil particle size and weight. A good loam will have about 1-3/4 inch (about 45%) of sand on the bottom. about 1 inch (about 25%) of silt next, about 1 inch (25%) of clay above that, and about 1/4 inch (about 5%) of organic matter on the top. 2) Drainage. Dig a hole 1 foot square and 1 foot deep and fill that with water. After that water drains away refill the hole with more water and time how long it takes that to drain away. Anything less than 2 hours and your soil drains too quickly and needs more organic matter to slow that drainage down. Anything over 6 hours and the soil drains too slowly and needs lots of organic matter to speed it up. 3) Tilth. Take a handful of your slightly damp soil and squeeze it tightly. When the pressure is released the soil should hold together in that clump, but when poked with a finger that clump should fall apart. 4) Smell. What does your soil smell like? A pleasant, rich earthy odor? Putrid, offensive, repugnant odor? The more organic matter in your soil the more active the soil bacteria will be and the nicer you soil will smell. 5) Life. How many earthworms per shovel full were there? 5 or more indicates a pretty healthy soil. Fewer than 5, according to the Natural Resources Conservation Service, indicates a soil that is not healthy. to see what needs to be done to make your soil good and healthy that will grow strong and healthy plants that are better able to figth off plant diseases. Vitamins are not needed. Here is a link that might be useful: Purdue CES...See MoreWhat multi vitamin have you really noticed a difference with?
Comments (13)I'm supposedly anemic, but I don't do anything about it. I am usually just below the reference range and I don't have any symptoms except that they won't let me donate blood. Once I was within the reference range, but my blood pressure was too low. So I just can't donate blood. Anyway, unless you are very anemic or are having symptoms, you may not have to do anything. Remember that reference ranges were made by taking a bunch of supposedly healthy people and seeing what their PCV was. The numbers in the middle 95% are the reference range. You could be perfectly healthy and have a different number, because the reference range doesn't say anything about whether or not the number is good. For example, if you took 10000 average Americans and got their weights, and took the 95% most common range, the reference range would almost certainly be unhealthy because most Americans are over weight. Just because most people fall within a certain range doesn't mean that it is a healthy number. Your number may be different. Now if you are having symptoms, or if your doctor feels your PCV is way too low, then you should find out what is going on. Your body may not be making enough red blood cells for any number of reasons (iron is only one cause of not being able to make enough RBCs- kidney disease, bone disease, steroids, and many many many other things can also cause low RBCs), your body may be destroying red blood cells, or you may be losing red blood cells as with a gastric ulcer or something. Iron supplements only help with one of probably thousands of causes of anemia. It's best to find out what is going on rather than to self-medicate. Unless your doctor feels that you are otherwise healthy, you may just be slightly anemic like me with no problems....See MoreFixing gummy tung oil
Comments (7)I have been building furniture and restoring antiques for years using tung oil or tung oil varnish. I primarily use Old Masters Tung Oil Varnish. These are hand rubbed finishes that must thoroughly dry between coats. I rub out the finish between coats with 00 steel wool. Once dry and hard, it is a durable, non-oily finish that is water and alcohol resistant. It requires no wax as it really won't adhear to the surface and isn't necessary. Regarding the expensive Scandinavian brand, are your it was not Danish oil which is a altogether different product? I would do some testing in a small area to see what works to take of the sticky finish. Once it is removed, let the surface dry for 2 or 3 days before trying to recoat the surface and then try just a small area to see what happens....See Moregummy finish to a dining table--questions about redoing
Comments (9)I wouldn't say the roller is a poor choice,I can only say that I've been able to achieve far better results with brushes. Fast? Yes,alot more paint can be laid down with roller in the same amount of time but in my experience, quality has always been lacking. Please understand that I have been for years and still strive to improve with every project. If you are serious about the best results possible,I have an exercise that will help. Enter next stage as you feel each has been mastered. Stage 1. Aquire a light with defelector/shade that is easily adjustable for height and angle. Mine is a reading lamp with heavy floor base, telescopic pole, fexiable neck and small conicial shade. No need for extreamly bright bulb but as room/work area is better lite, the bulb must be brighter. Lay scrap boards on saw horses/bench at comfortable working heighth then adjust light so it reflect's off board you are working on. Choose some spare paint and a crap brush. I recommend water clean up paint for ease of clean up but the glossier when dry the better for showing mistakes. As you apply paint, spread thin as possible while maintaining even gloss of fresh paint. DO NOT GO BACK AS PAINT DRYS TO TRY AND EVEN OUT GLOSS. Play around with thinning to find consistency that work's best for you, your board, your paint and brush. Spots where paint is to thin or missing when dry are called "holidays". Don't fret about hollidays at this stage because uneven absorbton of paint due to inconsistancies in board will look the same as too little paint. If necessary,we will handle that with primer later on when doing projects. At this stage,we will see a difference with a second coat. As you practice, try and pick up the speed with which you move along. It's very important to move fast in order to maintain (wet edge as mentioned by Mac earlier). Maintaining wet edge go's hand in hand with what I said above IN CAPS about not messing with partly dry areas. Stage 2. Repeat with oil base paint, oil base clear or clear poly. Stage 3. Use a clean quality brush and clean clear finish while using all suggestions we have made about keeping dust out of finish. Stage 4. Critique each project as you do them to see how you can improve. I would appreciate hearing wherter you learned any thing form stage 1....See Morealways1stepbehind
