I have been looking for "the perfect" kitchen floor for the last, gulp, 6 months. My conclusions: There is nothing easier than vinyl sheeting to live with. It cleans so easily, is soft on the feet, is inexpensive, and can look great. Problem is, it is just out-of-date and doesn't add value to your home (bad for resale if that is a concern). So, then I went on to wood versus tile - they both are more costly, and both have their own maintanace issues. SO: it all comes down to style/what feeling you want to convey. I just got to the point that I was overwhelmed with choices, and when I sat down and visualized my HOME, and what I wanted versus the smartest choice, the right stone appeared for me at the new tile store. I found a beautiful porcelein-thru tile from Stone Peak that is only $2.65 per square feet. SO, it will ADD value for the littlest bit more than vinyl, have less upkeep than wood or natural stone, and it comes in a lot of in-style shapes and colors. I took the plunge and went with the Azure. My painter is going to keep going so he's doing the kids bath in Sunshine and their downstairs playroom in Luminaire. I 'm having him do my bedroom too so in a couple of days my entire house will be in color!!! I can't wait!

I wanted to post some after photos and thank everyone who took the time to comment. It turns out that the wall was "indented" when we removed the chair rail so my DH has spent several weekends to build it back up with joint compound and texture it to blend in with the walls. It was a painfully tedious process (first trying to do it by hand, then with a sponge, then with spray-on compound that dribbled everywhere, and finally with a trowel lightly loading dabs of compound on). If you look closely you can still tell, but it's not as glaring as it was several iterations ago. Suffice to say, we are thrilled to be done with sanding, priming, texturing, and painting! Now, I need to figure out what wall decor to put up as the removal of the chair rail makes it a much easier space to deal with! Any and all advice would be appreciated. I was thinking of doing a photo gallery near the front entry, but that is a HUGE wall and I don't know that I can put photos high enough where you can still see them but not so low that the wall looks off-balance. Hi all! We just bought our first house! The paint color is great but I think we might like a change. Any suggestions? Also any input on decorating/changing the space is welcome! All of the decor is the sellers and will not be staying.
