YES! I have dogs. It is far easier to remove and wash a slipcover than to vacuum a sofa.

I make my own fitted ones and they stay put pretty well. I use velcro to fasten to furniture and zippers and velcro to close.

Scott. Do you ever go over to the home decorating forum? Along with your answers here I'd also try over there but I do think slip covers are popular. I have a small ladies chair in my bedroom with a white slip cover on it. I wash it as needed in very hot water with a whites detergent...Air dry....I love it. I have been wishing I could sew and see well enough to sew as I'd love a slip cover on my family room sofa. its a very well made sofa but gosh awful beige micro fiber type fabric that absolutly is a devil to clean. I hate it and I'd slip cover in a heartbeat if I could.

I don’t have slipcovers that cover up the sofas. just the slipcover blankets to protect them since they are leather and I do have pets. I do hate them costantly slipping. As seen here.

I love my slipcovers! Living room has them on 96" sofa and two unmatched chairs (wing chair and club chair). Had them made when the furniture was recovered 20 years ago -- at that time the sofa was already 20 years old (goes to show if you buy great quality it will last!). The sofa slipcovers are mainly for seasonal change -- fabulous (IMO) Chinese bird&flower print for summer on pale aqua background, then whip off for cheery warm pinkish-red slubbed material for winter (great for the holidays). Both the slipcovers and the upholstery have held up beautifully, as has the sofa itself. Did I mention that I love them?! =)

I have Sure Fit Ultra heavyweight slip covers with the separate 3 seat covers on my sofa. They have held up very well, and still look like new. They wash easily. My couch is about 28 yrs old and is in excellent condition, except that it is country blue and now goes with absolutely nothing else in the house. I hate to part with it because it is very comfortable, so I went with the slip covers, which are gray.

When I was having my living room furniture reupholstered last year, I decided to have slip covers made for two square stools instead of reupholstering them. Now, I'm able to use the darker color during colder months and cover them with the lighter colored slips during the warmer months. I change out my throw pillows seasonally and I really needed that extra hit of darker color to balance the room.

Someday, if I move into a different house, I may have slip covers made for whichever sofas I decide to keep. I like the idea of being able to switch out the color scheme and fabric relatively easily for different seasons.

I have the same type of Sure Fit slip covers as cat_ky (mine are in a chocolate color) but I also have white denim slipcovers from Ikea. I use the white ones most of the time. I don't know if white slipcovers are 'in' but they brighten the room and I love mine.

They look great, Nicole! We wanted to put covers on the seats of my daughter’s car. We were told not to do it because of airbags though. I would not be able to make them myself.

I adore slipcovers - always have. I like them not only for dogs, but for the softer dressmaker details one can use. They break up a sea of upholstered furniture which can easily look like a hotel lobby or a reception room at the country club.

My mother always had "summer slipcovers". They were made from bleached muslin. Without AC, the wool, nubby sofa would have been unbearable to sit on.

I bought a nice one for a sofa once but it always felt sloppy and I was constantly having to retuck all of it. I sold it on EBay. Now I just use quilts that I have made. During mud season, I add the waterproof dog cover. Quilts are so washable, I love that.

In the living room, we have a Pottery Barn Basic Sofa and Pottery Barn Basic Arm Chair. When you purchase them, you choose which color and fabric you want for the slipcovers. You can purchase additional slipcovers at any point in time in whatever fabric/color you choose. We change the slipcovers with the seasons. Easy way to decorate. (We also change the drapes.)

We have a slipcover on the sofa in the family room. We've had it for so long that I don't remember where we got it. But, I do remember that the slipcover came with these nifty things that tuck down in to hold the slipcover in place. They're very similar to these Slipcover Tuck Grips, but ours came with a "tool" that helps you to push the grips into position.

Since we rescued a few cats I needed to cover the furniture....I bought heavy duty painters drop cloths, draped them over the loveseat and chairs. Someday I plan on sewing them into loose fitting slipcovers (but I've also been planning on joining the Procrastinators Club for the last fifty years soooo) but right now can easily pull them off when we have people over.

Yup, pets and slipcovers go together.

I have them on my sofa and chairs. I change out the fabrics when I'm bored or they get worn. The pieces underneath look new.

I don't have IKEA sofas but I've considered one from their Ektorp (I think?) line. They have slipcovers which are interchangeable and washable. They have some different colors and a patterned one I believe. They're pretty couches but I just don't know how well they hold up.

I have a membership to the procrastinators club. This post reminded me of my next project. I'm going to do it! :0) Geez...the fabrics purchased.....I'm feeling so lazy!
