Furniture Design Dilemma living room

Help Needed with Living Room Update

I have a budget of $5,000 and I want to update my living room. I realize I won't be able to finish it all but I can get started and add to it as I can afford to.

My living room and dining room are one long room. I have a fireplace focal point at one end - living room area - and dining room table and 6 chairs at the other end.

My dining room chairs are brown - I was in a brown phase - I may upholster these a lighter shade of "greige" when I can afford to. For now they are staying but the room will be painted and the drapes replaced with the same as the living room.

I have picked a paint colour but not yet painted (Sherwin Williams Worldly Grey) and raised my curtain rods and hung new drapes (Kaden in Light Grey from Urban Barn).

I have picked out a sofa (Manhattan in Campbell Stone from Urban Barn) and 2 chairs (G Romano Spin).

But I'm having a hard time picking out the upholstery for the 2 chairs. These chairs will divide the living room and dining room area.

I have fabric samples but I'm not sure whether to go light or dark with the chairs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

SW Worldly Gray is on the bottom in the above pic. The middle darker colour is BM Revere Pewter (I think it's too green for this room)

With this budget I can't afford a designer so any help would be greatly appreciated!

If those are laminate cabinets, you might find laminate paint. I've seen Canadian designers use it to redo those same cabs, but not sure what the paint would be called in the U.S.

it is a nice mirrored cabinet but if you want it where it is currently, move it away from the fireplace so there is as much wall showing between it and the fireplace as you have on the other side by the wall. centered between the fireplace and the wall. same with the tv console pull it away from the stairway to center the unit on the wall. something twice the width of the TV would work best. measure the space you have to work with and leave about a foot either side of the console. see ho much having something wider helps make the large tv look better? I prefer not to mount the tv on the wall to make it easier the move or change later. decide how high you want the screen and look for a console, that gets it that height. the height on your current console looks good just not wide enough

Very nice. I'm glad you went w/ your original layout. :) Love the floor lamps; I think I like first one the best for your space, but they are both nice, and they both work. Love the goat! So much fun. You could mix in a couple of velvets in your pillows, with whichever way you decide to go, neutral or color. Velvet works well with leather. And you could still do neutral in pillows, etc., even with colorful art if you want to. You don't have to necessarily pull colors from art for other decor, art can stand on its own. But you could also incorporate art colors if you would like to, of course. Your space is really looking great. Love your ideas and the direction you're going in. Below, a bit of Boho/Boho Chic. Sure. The first thing you need to do is put together an ideabook with inspirational photos. Looks like you have started this and you like whites, blues and greens (as far as I can tell). Next: explore who this room will function for you and how it functions in relation to other rooms. Next thing: make a workable floor plan. Next: buy furniture as needed. Final: decorate. A lot of houzz discussions begin with the last step, which will get you no where and wast $ So, my first question is: tv: is this a good location for you? I see you might want to view if from the dining area. Is the height and issue? door: do you use this door? With 4 kids, my first inclination is that I would recommend a sectional (which I rarely recommend but in this case works). the sectional would run along the wall that the sofa is on, with a shorter leg facing the tv.

A popular color recipe is 60% of one color, 30% of a coordinating color, and 10% accent color. Your current selections are more like 95% medium-light gray. Is that the look you are aiming for? If not, step back and look at a broader range.

Thanks apple! I should add that my husband is insisting on keeping these leather chairs. They are oxblood red.
I will reposition them to flank the fireplace. The new chairs will go in their place.

So I’d go with a black, white, red and grey theme to the room. You could paint an accent wall a dark charcoal grey for interest. I would also probably whitewash your stone fireplace for now. I can’t see your overall wall color but I would choose a really light grey.
