Sherwin Williams Color for Limited Light Space - Mindful Gray?
I'm down to the wire on an interior paint job. The painting companies color consultant came out yesterday and did a consult, but one hour simply wasn't enough time to go through every room of a house in excrutiating detail and pick colors. Honestly, I don't know how they can expect this to be enough time.
I have a two story condo. The bottom floor faces east/west but due to it's shape, and no windows on the sides, gets limited light. This is what my floor looks like (not the actual condo):
The consultant and I discussed SW agreeable gray and SW worldly gray. She didn't like worldy gray for my space. She liked SW Lazy Gray, as do I, but I put some of that on the wall once before and it turned blue. I like SW colonial revival gray but it appears to be the same color as the floor, not good. She liked SW Repose Gray but I have that in a room upstairs and I don't like it. It's washed out, and again, looks blue. We also discussed SW Mindful Gray but I'm concerned that Mindful Gray would be too dark for this space with limited light. What to do!?!?!?

6 years agoTry this one…I think it will work in your space: S.W. Sensible Hue. Usually low light rooms need a richer hue…hoping it and the floors make the room interesting.

Comments (3)Take a look at SW Repose Gray, Mindful Gray and Dorian Gray. They are in the greige family but have a hint of green. With your honey oak cabinets and green countertops I think you would like any of them. The Repose is lightest. We have used it in two bedrooms, a hall and home office. Comments (4)Hi Fatima, If you have little natural light in those areas, I think the Mindful Gray will definitely make the room feel too dark. It has a lower light reflectance than Silver Strand. Yes, the green undertone of Silver Strand can be tricky; why not try a shade lighter of the Mindful Gray (LRV: 48) --> Repose Gray (LRV: 58). Comments (8)I took some photos of the inside last night when I got home. I apologize it is so dark- it was nearly nighttime and they've only roughed in the electric so we do not have any lighting in that side of the home right now. This is a view of the left side wall- the window on the right will be expanded to 6 ft. I forgot to mention there is also a sliding glass door to the left which will also let in natural lighting. 6 years agoI had my entire downstairs in my small condo painted mindful gray and while I loved the color it was just too dark for me. I lived with it for a few months and before I installed hardwood I repainted my walls repose gray and couldn’t be happier. The back wall here is also repose gray so you can see it can be a little dark without natural light compared to it being in natural light. Trim is SW Pure White.

Did you pick your gray? I've got 12 hours to pick mine...lol. I think we are going with agreeable gray but when I painted a swatch on my wall it looks so dark to be an all over paint color?! Wondering if it will look lighter once it's painted all over on walls and ceiling or if I will find it's too dark! Ugh.
