Lighting Design Dilemma Kitchens

Can't find pendant/chandelier for kitchen island with 8' ceilings....

My new kitchen island will be 9 feet long by 42" wide. My ceilings are 8' high. My cabinets will be white with a dark charcoal island - Chrome hardware most likely. Anyway, I really wanted to use 2 mini chandeliers over the island, but I am having a really hard time finding some that are wide enough, but short enough. Can anyone recommend a website or brand to search. I am interested in something pretty like a chandelier, and I don't like those mini narrow pendants. I was also looking into something linear, but I don't know how much of the island it should cover. I would like 2 mini versions of this.... Open to suggestion for other styles, but would like a little glam...

A 9 foot long island should (in my opinion) have more than two mini lights over it. I would go for two more robust fixtures OR 3-4 smaller ones. have you shopped the Houzz products?

You wont get the bang you are looking for, because they will look stuck to the ceiling. can you post a picture of the room? Something like this could work, as it is wider then it is long and still full:

No absolutely have never felt they are too high - I feel like lower would be annoying for conversation because when we host we routinely have people at the island while we are cooking and preparing , setting out food etc. I got our tiles from a local tile store- there wasn't a brand name on the box. it just said Made in Spain.

LARA, It's the same math: If you have 99 ( 8 feet is btw 96" , not 99 ) " and you have a light that IN TOTAL mount and fixture uses up 26 inches, you will have 37 inches from the bottom of the light to the counter top. If you have 96 inches...now you have 34 inches to counter top. If you want to know how it will look, on any you select? You get yourself a ruler, and you draw it out, using one inch, to one foot scale. Chain is easier than stem......so you really need to pay attention to specs, and mounting details. The length of your island must also be VERY much considered. Any solid shade will read heavier and larger than an open lantern or glass shade. Solid shades will direct light to the counter top, and more open or clear fixtures will give you more dispersed light.

Initially, I had the same concern that Beverly stated. That is why I sent the unlit second photo in which the fixture appears much whiter. It may be that it is creamier only when lit. Nevertheless, with all due respect, I think it would be fine to add a little warmth for counterbalance to the stark white. It looks like there may be some warmth in the island countertop, too. Also, it would be interesting to see the unknown factor of the kitchen flooring . That may also provide another warm element when revealed. I think the warm glow ,when lit , may just enhance the whole atmosphere.

If you do not have at least 12” of drop, it is no longer a ”pendant”. It is an oversized and awkward semi flushmount fixture. Bulbous glass at the ceiling is NOT a good look. It is simple math. A pendant fixture cannot be taller than 18” with an 96” ceiling. That gives you the 12” minimum drop, and the bottom of the fixture at 66” above the floor. And this is why most use ”mini” pendants with 96” ceilings.

Here's a linear crystal chandelier if you want glam. We have 10 1/2 ft ceilings but you can adjust the wire so it hangs more flush. It's from the website lamps plus.

I have no idea why any of theses would not work over an island but I would do three over a 9’ island. I will say though that cahndelier lighting over an island does not IMO have enough light for task so keep that in mind.

Thank you, All -- My ceilings are only 8' and I really wanted 2 or 3 mini chandeliers, but can't find any short/wide ones. I don't want super modern because my kitchen design is mostly traditional so far. I would like some glam, but not super contemporary glam.

Ishak17 - I will consider the linear versions too, but that one might be too modern -- Thank you though - It's so pretty

Patricia -- I have to ask my KD about the lighting for chandeliers. The one in my bedroom is very bright - it has 12 lights. If I do 3 chandeliers over the island, plus a bunch of high hats surrounding them, I think it should be fine....... No?
