Pendants with 7.5 ceiling? Talk me out of it!
Comments (25)Remember door height is 80" (6'8") so with anything that reaches below that height, you should think about how it interferes with movement. I would install pendants anyway, but be aware of the shape. IMO big variations in width could make them look smaller. I chose mini pendants with drum shaped shades for the hallways. With my 8' ceilings it almost reaches the door opening. I have a 7' ceiling downstairs and I plan to remove the rod, so I hope to get the bottom at about 6'2" height. That's a few inches lower than the flush mount light that is there now. It will look more like a semiflush light downstairs. But I still like the pendant shade....See MorePendant Lights Above Island with Short Ceiling
Comments (65)@Porter, I didn't get the LED Edison bulbs yet-the store where we got the pendants gave me 3 halogen bulbs to see if it was better for me as I didn't like the yellow light at all. I am still going to order them when I do a Prime order to see the difference. That fixture is in a nook--off centered from the pendants--it comes with a chain ;however I am undecided if a table is going to go there or it will stay open, so had it semi-flush mounted. Does it look odd or out of place? @Beth, Right now they are 34" so when the quartz is installed, it should be about 32 33" from counter to bottom of lights. They seem high, but any lower they are going to be in our eyes....See MoreIf I am redoing a kitchen with 8 foot ceilings, what size pendants?
Comments (14)LARA, It's the same math: If you have 99 ( 8 feet is btw 96" , not 99 ) " and you have a light that IN TOTAL mount and fixture uses up 26 inches, you will have 37 inches from the bottom of the light to the counter top. If you have 96 inches...now you have 34 inches to counter top. If you want to know how it will look, on any you select? You get yourself a ruler, and you draw it out, using one inch, to one foot scale. Chain is easier than stem......so you really need to pay attention to specs, and mounting details. The length of your island must also be VERY much considered. Any solid shade will read heavier and larger than an open lantern or glass shade. Solid shades will direct light to the counter top, and more open or clear fixtures will give you more dispersed light....See MoreIsland Pendants for an 8' Kitchen Ceiling and 12' island?
Comments (19)Why chrome? You will find it last if you want "transitional" as it has fallen from favor.........for other finishes. However, you can also consider TWO only, linear shallow , and open. One Left and one right of sink Note the specs!!! especially " overall minimum hanging height" . In Chrome below. Again......note specs. A lot of light, and no obstructed view of hood, or anything else for that matter. Yes TWO and perfect sizing below You need width.........without height in the fixture body. That's the deal with eight foot ceilings. Actual Size: 14.25"Hx32"Wx9.75"D Backplate/Canopy Size: 14"Wx4.75"D Rectangular Bulb Base: US Candelabra-E12 Color: Chrome Downrods Included: (2) 3" (2) 6" (6) 12" Material: Glass, Steel Max Bulb Wattage: 60 Number of Lights: 5 Overall Height Max: 60 Overall Height Min: 18...See Moreaokat15
