I would needd to see the pendants and IMO those would be too big in your space.

Hi there, this kitchen has 12’ high ceilings with a very large island. You’d need to do something much smaller than the ones in our photo. If your island is 9’ long, I suggest three small pendants. That would look much better with an 8’ ceiling. Best of luck with your project!

Great suggestions! Thanks so much for including photos. It is good to note that the island will have a sink in the middle facing into the living area. The living area has high ceilings.

Please no Edison bulb fixture unless you really don’t care about any actul light and love the yellow cast on everything. IMO you look for fixtures with LED bulbs in 4000K and I agree 3 smaller pendants over 9’ is a nice look

You DON'T have to use an Edison bulb, in any fixtuure.................................

And wuth all due respect to 4000k ii is hardly the only way to light a space..

Liights and islands and ceiling height are a proportion issue. a style issue, a finish issue a spec issue. If you want only two? Go back......look at those dimensions. Three will change the widths ( less and no more than ten /twelve inches. ) What it WONT change is the height inches, you have available.

Hi, @Stacie Adams what did you end up deciding re pendants in your kitchen? I'm in the same predicament with my kitchen with an 8 foot ceiling.

I ended up doing two pendants with adjustable length. If you estimate that the fixture at it's bottom needs to be within 24 inches you can search accordingly! How did your pendants turn out, @stacie? I’m looking at similar lights with 8ft ceiling and 99”. We are tall and need them hanging a max of 26”. I want the big pendant but I’m afraid it will almost look like a mounted pendant at that point. Thanks for you help!!

It's the same math:

If you have 99 ( 8 feet is btw 96" , not 99 ) " and you have a light that IN TOTAL mount and fixture uses up 26 inches, you will have 37 inches from the bottom of the light to the counter top. If you have 96 inches...now you have 34 inches to counter top.

If you want to know how it will look, on any you select? You get yourself a ruler, and you draw it out, using one inch, to one foot scale. Chain is easier than stem......so you really need to pay attention to specs, and mounting details.

The length of your island must also be VERY much considered. Any solid shade will read heavier and larger than an open lantern or glass shade. Solid shades will direct light to the counter top, and more open or clear fixtures will give you more dispersed light.

Stacie, I’m thinking about the same. Extending my kitchen with 8’ ceilings that looks out into the family room with high ceilings. How did your project turn out?
