It's a slotted spatula.

ETA I think most slotted spatulas you'll find today are more fish spatula types, longer, thinner, and straighter, but I do occasionally see still see ones like yours. You might find it more easily if you just search for metal spatula.

You may be correct, but I don't see any with the same shape. It's not flat, it's a bit of a bowl shape. Maybe this type isn't made anymore. But the pictures for slotted spatulas are similar. I'll wade through the pics online and see if I can come up with one. Thanks for your help.

It's a skimmer! While searching for slotted spatula/turner, that phrase popped up. Don't know why I didn't think of it, because I most often use it for skimming broth. I wouldn't have found it without your suggestions. However, I don't know if I'll find a suitable replacement. Most I see are more rounded than I would like. I like that the front edge is broader, allowing more contact with the edge of the pot. But I'm still looking. Thank you again.

Yes, Sherry! I thought mine said kitchenmagic. Misread the last letter. The font is oddly stretched out and some rust made it harder to read. I do love mine. And thanks for the link. I think that is my next purchase!

Mine came with a deep frier years ago....meant for removing fried stuff from the fat....no idea of the name....go on a prowl of a kitchen store.

They have them on EBay, but you can't tell if they are like new or not. They also want a fortune for them. I have seen them at estate sales.

I love vintage. The stuff is usually better made, but some of them seemed way over the top on price.

I see these pretty much every time I go to the thrift shop. I have one and one time my sister was in my kitchen and saw it and said "OH I need one of these, I can't find one anywhere" so I got her one from the thrift shop for a dollar. I have three. Linda is correct, they are for removing stuff when you are deep frying.

For mashing potatoes, serving, draining, whipping eggs, and yes, frying.

I used to have one of those, and I got rid of it because I replaced it with round skimmers that I like better. I bought my skimmers at a restaurant supply store, and they are significantly sturdier.

I don't see this as being a very good potato masher though. I think it's too flimsy for that. My potato masher is very hard and rigid.

I agree, Arkansas Girl. Perfect for skimming, lousy for mashing.

I use it for frying, draining, and serving. Example if I have fried okra, I use it to fry the okra and then if it is just us, I use it to serve the okra. I'll admit I haven't used it for mashed potatoes. I have the big square masher for that and I have a wisk for eggs.

I've had one of years. Used to use it all the time but much less so once I got one of brass wire spiders. Agree that they are easy to find in thrift shops and at yard sales.

I bought a new one for me and for both of our kids Christmas stockings at Amazon. They were 6 or 7 $.
