Miele DW: Rinse aid absolutely necessary?
Comments (14)Hi Just want to say I have a brand new Miele and this is my only complaint with it - there is no way to adjust the amount of rinse aid dispensed, and I can see bubbles when a fill a glass and "taste" it (although, to me, it's not so much a taste as a weird, slightly burning sensation). It is particularly bad in the first week of refilling rinse aid. Wet or dry finished dishes aside, will it actually damage my machine if I just stop putting the rinse aid in? The taste is yucky and I really don't care to consider the chemical residue on everything we eat from now! Tired...See MoreDo you rinse your corned beef before cooking?
Comments (8)I don't know that lightly rinsing it would make it "bland", because it's been soaking in that stuff for a long time. But you may be using too much water if you've got a really large slow cooker, that can leach some of the flavor out. I don't rinse it myself, just dump the whole thing in there. I add extra spices too, because the packet is pretty skimpy. Another way to intensify the flavor is to remove the corned beef from the liquid when it's almost done and finish it in the oven....See MoreNecessary to rinse TSP?
Comments (13)thank you, paintguy! That's JUST what I was thinking -- why use those kind of cleaners at all? (I'm learning...) The DIF is kind of expensive, so I've been alternating that with vinegar and water, although I heard that vinegar might be a problem, I don't know. I was certainly wondering about GARDZ, in fact was just about to call the corporate headquarters to make sure I can use it. The girl at HD told me about it but then the paintman there disagreed with her saying that the ONLY THING that will do would be to absolutely remove every bit of residue. Evidently you don't have to do that with Gardz, is that true? In fact I am under the impression that I don't even have to take off the liner paper if I apply Gardz. I am getting as much off the walls as I can, but the Gardz might solve my problem. I plan to paint over that. Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks....See MoreIs it necessary to rinse the turkey?
Comments (48)I am not sure any seller will be on record telling you to do what I had done. That is a very predictable answer you will get, from someone who most likely has no knowledge of sous vide cooking. Also I am not sure the nice lady understood totally the exact condition of what I had done. I will never cook with that plastic in a 400F oven. 150F is a relatively low temperature for plastics. I seem to remember that food grade plastics are rated to 212F. The moral of the story: Don't do it if you are not comfortable with this once a year crazy idea. For fun, watch these two videos. It seems to me that his plastic used was not even food grade. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WniZ1ly5Ik http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neqq8imstlc&feature=relmfu dcarch...See Moresleevendog (5a NY 6aNYC NL CA)
