Just do it living room decision?
Comments (11)Dlm, I can recline to watch if I want to watch. DH could, but probably won't. The seats are lightweight and sit on hardwood, he could slide them to a more comfortable viewing angle if necessary. I actually think he'll end up watching from a chair, though. Or else he'll either get motivated enough to deal with arranging the TV stuff somewhere else himself or maybe even stop watching so much -?!. I *knew* there was a point to all this decorating agony! Thank you responders. I'm gonna call the upholsterer. He kept putting me off and then voila last night a discount coupon for his business appeared in the paper. The price should be better than I previously believed. Unless somebody wants to help me avoid a mistake I'm not seeing? Oh, I'm weak. Weak as water!...See MoreHow do you make appliance decisions when there's so many bad reviews?
Comments (18)Thank you all so much for the really excellent advice. Each of these comments is extremely helpful to me. I can't tell you how much better of a mindset I have about the whole thing. A combination of people understanding how it can become overwhelming - if you let it - but also learning how to set some logical criteria for making a decision (such as features, price, warranties, using psychology & a pinch of salt with reviews, strongly considering the customer service of the company, deciding what your priorities are and keeping your sanity are some ) has helped me a LOT to get a grip on this endeavor. :D Finally to understand that nothing's perfect but narrowing the margins can give you a pretty good shot at succeeding. If you've found some place with pretty good customer service you've got that as a fall back. Getting that this is NOT an investment but an expense also changes my point of view and understanding about it. (Ugh, marketing ploys. It's always like they are doing you a favor and not just trying to get your money). There's a lot more that you've explained here but I just really wanted to thank you and say it's made a massive difference to my whole outlook and feelings about it. I was able to make a decision this morning that I feel good about and feel a bit like having a glass of wine and some cheesecake - that's how relaxed I feel about it! c: Quite a difference from the semi-hysterical exhausted fearful creature I was, haha. Cheers everyone. ^^...See More8 Simple Ways to Freshen up Your Home
Comments (0)Are you looking for simple ways to freshen up your home? Maybe you want to paint or redecorate a bit.The trick is finding a way to do it with minimal cost and effort. Below are some clever interior design tricks to transform your home. Change the look with a fresh coat of paint Grab a paintbrush and a gallon of paint! A new paint job will always work wonders for a room. First, come up with a basic colour scheme. If you aren’t a design expert, many paint stores have brochures to suggest paint colours that compliment perfectly together. The rule of thumb is that when choosing a colour palette, assign 60 percent of the room a dominant colour, 30 percent a secondary colour, and 10 percent an accent colour. Brighten up the room with mirrors Mirrors add instant light to your living space. Plus, they bring light and depth to visually expand any space. A handy tip is to ensure they reflect something interesting like the outdoors or an artful display. Splurge on a good sofa You’re going to use it forever so buy a sofa with good, durable fabric. To get the best buy for your buck, check the frame.Having a sturdy frame means a long-lasting sofa. Test the springs and the fit.Make sure it supports you properly and feels comfortable to sit on. Get a fabric that meets your family needs.Sofas for everyday use need durable fabric. If you have kids or dogs get a durable, washable fabric that will stand up to the test of time. Mix and Match It’s important your room feels like you.You want to look around and feel a sense of home that evokes special memories. Before running to the store take a good look at what you already have. Mix old collected family treasures with new pieces. Everything doesn’t have to perfectly match.Go through the attic. Shop at thrift stores. Mix up patterns and textures. Decorating doesn’t have to be expensive.Use your creative genius to seek out treasures you’ll love. Declutter your space Gather together all the household items that are in piles and gathering in the corners of your space.Simple lines and organization bring a feeling of peace and unity in a space. Simplify your bookshelves.Place simple items like books, plants and vases in a visually pleasing way. Sometimes less is more. Just add plants Plants can soften the look of your interior spaces. They bring life and warmth to any boring corners and areas of your home. They can be used as a centerpiece, room dividers or a focal point in a room. Not only are plants beautiful but many can clean household air and balance humidity. If you aren’t a green thumb, silk plants can have a similar impact. Add layers of light Get as much natural light as possible into your home and consider using full-spectrum lights. Ambient lights add general illumination where task lighting is needed for reading. Accent lighting will dress up any room. Go Feng Shui Add energy and flow to any space with feng shui design principles such as: Don’t place all your furniture against the walls. Put at least the front legs of your sofa on the rug — not just around it. Get rid of everything you do not love in your house. Eliminate clutter and you’ll feel lighter and more peace in your space. No doubt, Feng Shui can create balance and vibrant energy in all areas of your home. I hope these tried and true design formulas help you make your living spaces a little more beautiful without breaking the bank. Comments (43)So many great comments here- and helpful too. Joaniepoanie absolutely. I can so relate to that with the bathrooms. It's not that I want to settle to get it done, but yes you now have the bathrooms looking way better than they and you can just enjoy that. (and yes if the dream accessories materialize you can change). I did link the original thread for my kitchen back in here but I think I might just start a new one to see any input because I am ready to decide after having mulled this over for months.........and then I will say my decision will be made by Tuesday. Jakabedy YES to you as well. I find sometimes getting started is the key. I think a part of me is/was hoping to be bowled over by an option that is clearly THE one but in most instances I am considering, there are really more than one very fine option. Given my ridiculously overly cautious and analytical nature I keep researching and what if ing and so on. I am trying very hard (very very hard) to just make a few decisions and go from there. I know when it's all said and done, I will feel a lot better....See MoreRelated Professionals
