I had one in my previous home, in a very large family room.

I loved the chaise, and would have loved it even more if it had been on the other end.....but, the sofa was a High Point Furniture Market sample after the show ended. It would have been $$$, but we got it for a third of the retail.

So, make sure the buyer is certain about whether she wants a left or right chaise.

The awkwardness was finding a suitable coffee table. There was a humongous ottoman that matched it, but it would have been like crawling over a mattress to get to the sofa, so we didn't buy it. We found a 36" round coffee table that worked well.

I've always been curious about this too. I agree with you Oly but I bet they're comfy. Kind of like puffalump/marshmallow furniture is.

I forgot to mention that I've ordered a small sectional with a chaise for my sunroom. My sunroom is only 8' wide, but is 18' long, cut in the middle by a chimney that sticks out. Therefore, to be able to have a guest face me, instead of sitting side-by-side, I ordered the sectional for one end of the room. It's being made here in North Carolina...delayed now until mid-February.

Edited -- Oh wait! That's not correct -- it's an L-shaped sectional. No chaise. Had to refresh my old memory!

No, and I would never get one again. I would get an ottoman. it is comfy to sit in, but a bit of a pain to get out of sometimes and with guests there is only one end for people to sit at, no one (except my brother :) ) feels like sitting there.

My DB has one and I like and they said the chaise part is always first dibs. I would get one if i was getting a new sectional.

It's the first seat to be stolen as soon as someone leaves it. Especially when we have a family gathering. Our two 20 something nieces sit together if we have a big crowd. I sit on it with my feet under my butt with DH beside me on a sofa section with the ottoman. LOVE the chaise edge!

I have one and I like it sometimes. I like lounging on the cool leather after a hot bike ride. But I will say that I am just as comfortable sitting in a lounge chair with an ottoman. At some point in the next couple years I will be getting a new sofa and I will probably not get the chaise part, only because it does not seem to be common in modern sofas that would fit my house.

So, in short, I like the chaise, but I think an ottoman or even a coffee table can serve the same purpose and I’ll be forgoing the chaise on my next sofa.

I don't exactly know the difference between the "L-shaped" and "chaise" I'm afraid..but we do have a sectional in our family room, and I'm the annoying person who always takes the best spot, which, to me, is the shorter part of "L" (but not so annoying as I'm usually at home while others are not)-and I spend there few hours a day, usually. Laying down. I'm a restless person-if I sit I either eat or type, if I lay down I either read or watch smth, otherwise I'd be pacing back and forth, cleaning or straightening or just moving somehow. So I never really sit straight on sofas except when I'm a guest or host or we have some serious family conversation. So yes, to me it's a best spot. It's not really puffy sectional, I dislike them..not as elegant and streamlined as I'd prefer, but good enough. And we have free eating policy in the family room, so it helps it's leather. (Frankly I'm so very tired of leather, but it's good for being very relaxed and do whatever). I take naps there too. We have an ottoman there-so additional seating if needed. I have there a big comfy throw, and pillows, and it's like a nest of sorts. With books around, and all.

It might depend on a person of course. If I can help it I never sit properly like a lady(much to dismay of my late Grandma that tried to teach me to be one) but rather remind a scrambled egg)) Lotus pose is more convenient to me than sitting straight. So if somebody is a lounge-y type he'll pick this spot first thing first, probably. If he prefers to sit normally he probably will go for a longer section.

To continue being unhelpful lol-we bought it also to have an additional option for short-term overnight guests, it has this fold out queen bed inside.

This is the style I mean...I think an L shape has a back along both sides and a chaise is partially open where the back would be. I just had heard that they were difficult to get into and out of and that they aren't really long enough to lie down on. But most people seem to be saying they like theirs. Maybe it's the couch with chaise that I'm thinking isn't as comfy, but the sectionals seem to have wider chaises and more options for seating, now that I'm looking more closely.

We just bought a huge sectional and ordered a chaise for each end. My hubby loves the center and everyone else wants the chaise. Cat loves it all. Round coffee table works best.

Oly that's ours only in dark brown and opposite seating. Chaise is on rhe right, love seat in the middle and sofa on the left against a half wall. Chaise is beside the sunroom. I'm still trying to decide what to put on the walls!

I love my chaise, and woe betide anyone who tries to get there before me.

I have a sofa with a chaise extension on one side. I sit there ... always. It's good and bad. The good is that it is incredibly comfortable, great for whatever I'm doing and it gives me a lot of room for other things like where to put the computer or magazine etc. It's great for keeling over into a nap. And my little Misty loves curling up in between my legs every night while I watch tv.

The bad is that the cushion is not reversible so as I sit there the stuffing gets worked more and more out to the foot area. The seat sits lower and the legs sit higher. If I could reverse the cushion it might help, but the way the extension wraps around the arm of the sofa, it doesn't flip. I wish they'd put baffles or something into the cushion so it didn't happen, but there it is. Sometimes I reverse it anyway if I'm not expecting any company just to try to even it out some, but it makes the sofa a mess to do that.

I have one with a chaise & it's my spot!! I keep a throw on the end of it for my little dog(where he sleeps when I'm gone.) It's right next to the FP & quite cozy. Like Annie, I can put stuff I'm working on, stretch out after being on my feet all day & take naps. I slept there last night:)

I think my room would look more sophisticated without the sectional-sofa & couple of chairs. But, we are about comfort here!!

We also have a 2 piece sectional sofa with a wide chaise (the sectional part is the chaise). We rarely have guests (just DH and I) and we wanted something where we could sprawl. The chaise part is fairly wide and it makes a very cozy reading area when piled up with pillows. When we shopped for ours, I did not like most of the ones we looked at, since the chaise part just felt way too narrow and kind of pointless.

ohemgeeee the chaise is the most coveted seat in the house, lol. love my chaise! would never want to miss it again !!
