Updating high ranch exterior-- need your advice!
Comments (2)First remove the shutters they do not belong on any of the windows., IMO the brick is what makes the exterior interesting so I would choose a gray from the brick for the siding and no shakes anywhere. I think exterior work best with few materials As for the door I don’t think in this situation you need a storm door why not just a phantom screen for air flow in the summer. I would try to reside and see how you like it first I really discourage clients from painting brick , once done hard to go back ....See MoreMy home exterior needs your advice!
Comments (7)Agree that the shutters should be removed entirely - they don't fit the windows. Fencelet on the corner too. Awnings should also go. And what are those white "wings" on either side of your front door - more shutters? Another likely candidate for removal! All of the white looks very stark against the brick right now, but it might look better once the shutters are removed, since there will be a lot less of it. As for an alternate color for the yellow section, it would help to see your roof, but personally I like grey with red brick. Once you decide on a color for the body of the house you can decide whether to paint the garage door the same color and how to handle other trim pieces, etc....See MoreYour Advice with Exterior Update of Contemporary House Please
Comments (22)Glass would be an interesting way to go. There are many options, but something directly above the door is far preferable to extending the roof. And getting water off will be important. I don't think an architect is necessary and it would be difficult to find someone who would take on such a small job. But it DOES need to be engineered. Maybe start with a local contractor but make sure it will be properly supported and drained....See MoreNeed exterior advice lights/landscape with new house color- BMHaleNavy
Comments (6)@celerygirl Thank you for your suggestions and visual, it really helps. I am thinking of taking out the existing garden below the big window and using the planters- not sure what I'll fill them with yet, most likely grasses and flowers. We do open those windows at times so will have to put that under consideration too. I never thought of plants along the edge of the walkway- that's a nice look. We just removed an old ash tree that took up a lot of the front yard and shielded the window with some privacy- might be a good time to replace with the tree/shrub you placed in there. Thank you for your suggestions....See MoreKristin S
