Need help with mountain house exterior color & finishes!
Comments (13)I don't have experience with exterior stains but a sage green paint would look good. I like your stacked stone and could see it as column bases around the porch and deck posts. Or you could use river rocks to match those in the landscape. Not sure I like the steel in the middle of the chimney or the mantle overthe top of the TV. They break the lines of that soaring fireplace and the mantle will be too high to set things on. If solid rock to ceiling is not an option, rock to mantle then wallboard with timber trim to ceiling. Solid rock would be good for passive solar so you might get a tax break for that. Once you rebuild deck consider sun sails instead of roofing which could block those windows year round. That would cut your winter heat gain and ruin your views. Use lower deck in the heat of the day and upper one for evenings. Gorgeous setting....See MoreNeed help choosing an exterior house color and shutter color
Comments (5)I think you are right to be cautious about adding gray on your beige-rust-brownish house. Just doesn’t ”go.” Navy or green would work. The shutters you have now look like bandaids. Get new appropriately sized shutters. Your landscaping looks neat and well cared for, except the one red-brown shrub starting to get too tall....See MoreHelp Needed! Exterior home color advice
Comments (9)thank you for the thoughts - very much appreciate it!... I'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks brown would look odd... the color on the house right now is a very, very light cream - - i think the picture is representing the color wrong right now, as it definitely doesn't have a pink hue... i'd say its a standard tan, with an even lighter, off-white trim color... my wife is insistent about not going all-white, with fear of how dirty it can and/or will get. however, the several comments about white do help make me feel better that i'm not the only one who doesn't think a dark color will work, and a light tan/cream will be the right choice. ultimately, i foresee us landing on something like the below photo, but hopefully with a little less yellow. it might be the common choice, but its tried and true and looks great, imho. https://cdn.jhmrad.com/wp-content/uploads/mediterranean-house-color-schemes-exterior-keboconstruction_152212.jpg...See MoreNeed help with Exterior house color for a two story boxy lake house.
Comments (4)A waterfront home near me recently painted their blue house to be white, with blue trim. Walking past it, I commented to the workers that it was beautiful. They agreed, saying they were going for a coastal look. I suggest searching Houzz or asking a SW color pro for a coastal white. SW Underseas would work great as your trim color....See MoreAmit Patel
