Design Dilemma Paint

White Paint Advice Please!

I have an open floor plan, south facing with lots of windows and natural light, medium-tone wood floors. Our trim and moldings are painted bright white in a semi gloss finish. I want to paint the walls white but do not want to redo trim. Is it best for me to go with the same bright white on walls or will going with something like BM Simply White or BM white dove work? I don’t want them to clash and I can seem to figure this out on my own. Please help!

If you want white, you need to use same shade, but different finish. Use an eggshell or low-lustre finish.
It's going to be a lot of white.

I agree that glazing white cabinets makes them look dirty. Glazing can be a good look with darker colors/stains, but not with white. I've had my creamy white painted cabs for eight months. There's only me in the kitchen, plus three cats who try to open doors with claw-filled paws, and so far, no chips or scratches. The paint is pretty strong. Of course, any drip or dirty mark will show up, but a wipe takes care of it. I did a complete clean of every surface, nook and cranny, with water and a few drops of Dawn, plus a microfiber cloth. I have a small kitchen so it only took about 15 minutes. The main point was to get the dust, etc. that settles in the shaker insets and various moldings. I plan to do this every six months (or less) regardless of whether they look like they need it or not. As rocketmomnkd ays, stained won't look dirty, but they just hide it.

A classic white is: Dunn Edwards DEW380 "White -1" For cabinets, trims and baseboards (i.e. high traffic locations) I would suggest "Low Sheen"

SW 7028 incredible white. It’s a soothing white - I didn’t want stark. I went against designer idea to match the crown molding / trim to cabinet color. I wanted variance-cabinets to be their own thing- glad I listened to my gut because it’s a ton of cabinets to not like-it’s really a great color- looks great with the satin bronze hardware.

The wall color you just put in definitely has blue undertones. Blue and orange are complementary colors on the color wheel. Complementary colors enhance one another. The blue in your new wall color will make your cabinets and floors seem even more orange. I like the aqua kitchen posted above. But, if you just want to tone down the orange-y vibe without painting cabinets, I would pick a more neutral color for the walls - some sort of white - and paint those. Use some light colored runners on the floor to help break up the flooring color. Maybe put in a backsplash. Then see what you think about the cabinets. I think if you don't like the wood on the cabinets, you should not feel bad about painting them. There is nothing wrong with painting wood cabinets or furniture or paneling that you dislike. BUT cabinet painting is a big job, to do it well enough to withstand daily wear and tear.

You might go with a pale neutral, like a taupe or a warm gray, that would allow some contrast from the trim while lightening the space. I'm not sure all white will look great with such formal trim, although it is done. (Note: I'd paint the beams white like the pillars -- they look decapitated right now!!)

If you want it all white I would use the same color, but in a different sheen. However, it might be overwhelmingly white so consider painting some rooms another color or adding in color and warmth in other ways.

One note about painted doors, this will be an issue if and when you ever sell. Most buyers want standard white doors, and most are unwilling to take on the task of repainting them if they're buying a home. It will look nice, but just a heads up.
