Please recommend lavender/light purple coloured hardy roses
Comments (10)Sandra Renaissance is probably the hardiest lavender that I grow. Fragrant Plum does well too. I also have Blue River and Melody Parfumme but they were new last year and I'm not sure yet if they survived. Neptune died of canker and wasn't very hardy. Paradise is another one that barely survives for me but it could be the cheap body bag specimen that I have. Ebb Tide and the Prince are both darker purples and both are hardy....See Morepurple or lavender roses
Comments (32)One that has been surprisingly prolific and healthy for me has been Pillow Talk, that I got when Cliff from Eurodesert sold his garden plants last year. Pillow Talk has happily survived my zone 5 winters and put out frequent reblooms of some nicely double mauve roses on a low growing plant. I consider this rose exactly what I think of when people say "mauve" - sort of a dusty pinkish purple that was popular in carpets in my grandparents' youth (certainly my grandmother had that color all over her house). The pictures on HMF are mostly from Beth, and mine has stayed the dusky purple with cream highlights rather than the hot pink in one photo. Only available from Vintage on HMF but we still have hopes for some form of survival from Vintage in years to come. Cynthia...See MoreShort purple/lavender colored companion flower for roses
Comments (20)Hi enchanted, it's Diane again. Previously I had suggested that Lauren's Grape poppy was a wonderful plant of the most gorgeous color. Lauren Ogden, a well known garden writer, seed expert, and book author is the developer of this poppy which she selected for over and over in her own garden, till she got the pure strain for Lauren's Grape seed. It's widely available now, but my favorite seeds are from the company, Renee's Garden, and they call their seeds, Lauren's Dark Grape, and it is a rich and dark color. These are annuals and bloom briefly, but the plant can fit about anywhere. The leaves are a beautiful silvery color, and I love the "pepper shaker" seed pod that develops. Let the plant reseed or gather seeds after the pod is ripe, and scatter in late winter or very early spring. Here are a couple of pics, taken by my talented granddaughter. There was a little too much sun the day these were taken. If you've seen my photos, I should mention that every one of them she photographed. Comments (50)Young Lycidas, a David Austin English shrub rose is beautiful and very fragrant. It has other good qualities, as well. Very disease-resistant, good repeat bloom, and it doesn't outgrow a small garden (as many other David Austin roses do)....See Morelavenderlacezone8
