Hi, The metal hardware may be helpful in dating it. Remove a screw, if there is no point, but just a blunt end, that's a handmade screw from before 1850. Looking at the metal clips that fasten the top to the apron, these indicate a very late date, as you can still buy them. Early pieces used wooden toggles to fasten tabletops. Look at the cam/lever used to hold the top together; again, a very modern piece of hardware, still being made. Another giveaway is the stencilled serial numbering of the separate parts- this system cam into use so that the base that had been fitted to the top could be reunited for final shipping, as they were finished and stored separately. No need for a numbering system in a small shop building them one at a time. I think that this was made any time in the last century. The highest likelihood is between 1920 and 1950. It is still a wonderful table. I suspect it used to have a label on it saying "solid genuine mahogany; all exposed parts guaranteed; mahogany association, inc." In regards to anyone reproducing empire style furniture, ever hear of "Magnolia Hall"? it was a catalog full of mahogany repro stuff, from Belter-inspired rococco couches, to a slew of Duncan Phyffe ripoffs. I agree with others that this is essentially a non-issue as they are innocuous. Just paint them the same color as the wall so they blend in. Once you get them organized properly they aren't difficult to use because you know what is behind each segment and you put items that aren't accessed frequently in the segment that is most troublesome. I have double sliding doors in my closet which I replaced when I remodeled with new doors. I have seen some gorgeous "statement" versions but any upgrade from your current innocuous doors would be expensive. A higher end MCM home might have had walnut slab doors. I have seen "fancy" doors that have mullions or lamina or the current trend "black" type of mullions. Some of my neighbors with the same layout have the "slatted" style of sliding wood doors. Mine are full mirrors with invisible hardware. It works for me because I have a high rise city view so having the view reflected in the wall of mirrors was a design choice. It is also extremely practical to have large floor to ceiling wall to wall mirrors. It doesn't make me think of a bad disco in the least :-)
