Comments (15)Add my vote to removing the large shrubs around the house. A couple of trees look dangerously close to the house .... such as in imminent danger. Coordinate new shrubs and plantings with architectural features (instead of covering them.) Add width to the walkway or replace it with a wider walk. Add depth to the planting beds beyond the hardscape borders that exist now. Re-design (enlarge) islands such that trees are not at its edge. They should be a few feet in from the edge. Maintain the islands such that there is consistent groundcover from edge to edge. Currently, there is a variety of weedy looking plants in them. Also, limb up the trees in the islands such that they frame (surround overhead) the view to the house, not block it....See MoreUpdate my exterior paint from the 80s:)

I don't know why but I realised that You have to slightly lighten facade and repaint shutters to other not hot color, such as this color used in Deauville, the place of American Film festival is held yearly. This color is very stylish and its difficultm not simple, in its best way. Alternatively, You can use off-gray but for me its dull. Also, the basic columns of the fences are too slim. Use something to thick them as I showed on the sketch. I would leave them in whites and additional fences on stairs are needed. Also the backyard fence can be cleaned, polished and painted with this "Deauville green" color, it also would be very stylish and make a reference to a good taste)) Overall, I woulld use 2 colors + white fences. I even would not touch the bricks (You can wash them and cover with defence liquid), or You can make this other year. You have a lot of work this time so don't try to do ALL simultenously. Hope this works. Good luck!...See Moreexterior 80's ranch
Comments (10)I feel when you have an undistinguished boring 80's ranch the one modern element that is easy to help transform it is Craftsman elements. I wanted to create a more timeless yet updated home. That is why I have always loved Craftsman style homes. I like your idea of doing the door in a wood grain. If I had a limitless budget I think it would be wood. From far enough away a good rich brown just may achieve that look without having to do the faux wood grain. Thank you for the idea....See More80s House Update- Help needed! :)
Comments (33)I have a "garage forward" house, and perhaps what you don't like is the strong statement the stone makes but only halfway. So it's a pretty big contrast between the stone and the other side of the garage which makes a strong out of balance statement. I'd paint the house a color closer to the stone so there's much less contrast. Painted stone is like putting tinfoil on a turd, IMHO. You could also cover the stone with siding that matches the pillar or some other siding on the house. The problem with your house now is that the garage is looking way too prominent considering how pedestrian that part is, with the entrance receding into the background. That can be fixed with paint and landscaping. But if you have your heart set on a white house . . . I dunno, maybe cover the stone with stucco. I just think painted white stone is going to look cheap. Colorful front door will be a nice update too....See Moreashly522
