Bosseyvossy, I watched some of the red carpet. Seems it is not so hard to mess it up. Most looked good, but some had me scratching my head. There was one that had the jester/clown thing around the neck.

Black is the color worn at formal events. Go to fewer funerals and more formal events and you may look at it differently.

I thought the stars looked panicked as they watched Kirk Douglas, thinking how long b4 they looked that way. Longevity notwithstanding (102 YO), why show him when his speech was unintelligible? Did he look happy to be there? Made me cringe for him.

Same here bossyvossy. I was doing something else when Catherine Zeta-Jones started talking so I wasn't really paying attention. When I heard the garbled speaking, I looked up at my TV. I haven't seen Kirk Douglas in years, and frankly, I was a little taken aback. I always thought of him as strong and handsome, and to see him sitting in a wheelchair, so frail and really unable to speak, it shocked and saddened me. I'm wondering how necessary his presence was. Why she needed him onstage with her.

I was looking forward to watching it but it wasn't on the channels I get. Bummer!

I loved most of the dresses. Usually, black dresses are classy and they were tonight. I adored Oprah's speech So good.

Bossy, I am really taken back by your comments, especially regarding Kirk Douglas. Even at 101 and having to deal with the effects of a devastating stroke over ten years ago, he is still leading an active life.....his mind is strong even if his body is failing him.

He was there to be honored for his integrity in an ugly and shameful era in Hollywood's rather tainted history. Didn't you listen? I thought that the audience looked thrilled to be seeing a still living Hollywood legend. More importantly, HE looked happy to be there.

Hey, Mary.....you don't get NBC? Am curious about that. We are investigating dropping cable for alternative possibilities but wouldn't want to lose local networks and mainstream channels.

Didn't realize it was happening last night. I wouldn't have watched but now I can look up the dresses. That is the only part that holds even a minimum interest for me. Gotta say PLENTY of people look horrid in BLACK--it is an unforgiving color for many.

I remember seeing Kirk Douglas's one man show on TV some years ago, it was after his stroke and determination to recover. His speech was typical of a stroke patient. Didn't see any of the Golden Globes last night, I'll have to do a Google but excerpts will probably be playing on TV throughout the day.

Rhizo, I only get three channels . aBC, CBS, and a Fox channel. I kept flipping back and forth to see if it was on but no luck. Don't base your decision on what I get though as I am in the country and live 20 miles from the small TV station which doesn't give me many channels. I just have a small digital antenna sitting on the window sill I am thinking of trying the TV Fox antenna to see if it makes a difference. It may not help because of my location. One mounted on the roof may help me too but the neighbor had one installed on her roof and only gets the same three channels that I get. I miss the PBS channels too.

I only saw a tiny bit in the middle, where they were announcing the best male actor category. I was delighted when I saw James Franco win, simply for the irony of winning a best anything award for a movie about one of the worst movies of all time. It was similar to Martin Landeau winning best supporting actor for his role in Ed Wood, which was about that famously bad director and his masterpiece of schlock "Plan 9 from Outer Space"
