I noticed how many women wore their hair down - it's almost like someone sent a memo to all the ladies informing them that this was the new style. Personally I loved it.

Ricky Gervais was not funny. The audience didn't seem to laugh either. I have always thought Robert Downey Jr. was an interesting, intelligent fellow. His comment about Ricky and the insults was spot on. When he came out to give out an award he looked at the audience and said....

"Aside from the hugely mean-spirited and mildly sinister undertones, I'd say the vibe of the show is pretty good don't you think?"

Most of the dresses were stunning. I loved the emerald green on Catherine Zeta Jones and Angelina. My
favorites were Claire Danes and Anne Hathaway.

As for who won or lost - I don't really watch the show for the awards, just the spectacle. And the Hollywood Foreign Press isn't know for their astute proclamations.

I enjoyed the Globes. I thought Ricky was way over the top...not funny at all. Most of the time the stars looked a little embarrassed by his comments....good for them!

And you're so right about Jane Lynch - it was refreshingly funny. I loved her....."I'm nothing if not falsely humble".... line. She is one funny lady.

Remember Don Rickles? He used to insult people and get away with it. He didn't seem so mean-spirited, and out to really hurt someone. I wondered if Ricky is trying to imitate that somehow. I heard on the radio, he won't be doing the show again. He's way too...in your face,... and bringing his drinks on the stage, isn't cool.

The dresses were all very pretty. I felt uncomfortable when DeNiro was talking about his kids.(I forgot what he compared them to.)

A friend just emailed me some of the things Ricky Gervais said. She said she heard he might have been fired part way through the show. I guess everyone had the same reaction to him. It was as though he was performing at a roast--except it wasn't a roast. I missed most of what he said......I think I turned on the TV when Robert Downey, Jr. was speaking, and I didn't understand the references. Gervais must be feeling rather depressed this morning.

I wasn't crazy about Sandra Bullock's hair. I like her a lot, and thought the hair and makeup she had in The Blind Side looked fabulous on her. Overall, though, I liked the long hair last night.

I loved Natalie Portman's dress, but can't get used to seeing pregnant women in platform stilettos.

Oh, and, I didn't recognize Sandra Bullock. Speaking of hair, what's with Annette Bening's hair.?! I know she wears it short, but that was not attractive.

I didn't notice Annette Bening's hair (just her posture, which made me attempt to stand up straight), but I thought Tina Fey's looked rather odd. Usually I love the way she looks.

Personally, I always thought Don Rickles is mean-spirited and prejudiced. I can't stand his "humor". Ricky went too far this year.

The women looked lovely and the men looked great. I loved Chris Colfer from Glee's acceptance speech, as well as Jane Lynch's.
Overall, an entertaining show. But glad I record it so I can zip through all those commercials!

I loved the show and Ricky. He IS over the top but I find him funny and irreverent. I saw 15 movies last year, and my by far favorites were KIngs Speech, The Kids Are All right, The Town and The Social Network, so I was very pleased that ALL my very favs except The Town won awards. I might apply for a critic's job. Loved that Colin Firth won. He surely deserved it. Social Network was the best movie and The Kids...was wonderful and only was in our theatre for one week. And Kings Speech just arrived after a release in November. >>Dresses..Loved Halle Barry's. Gorgeous. Loved Temple Grandin was there and Danes deserved that award. Hated Sandra Bullocks hair and did not recognize her in the crowd, Loved Annette Bennings. Angelina and Brad looked gorgeous as ever. She's is the most beautiful movie star by far.

Tilda Swinton took 'worst dressed' in my humble opinion!

I thought Angelina Jolie looked 'old' and dowdy - she usually looks great. I thought (as usual), that Halle Berry looked fabulous.

I didn't see most of it.

I did not care for Ricky G's mean comments. They were not funny. Cruelty is not humor. And I truly appreciated Robert Downey's comments.

I loved the deep green of Angelina's dress. I caught bits and pieces of the show as DH and I babysat our grandsons and I did DDs laundry while she and her DH went out to dinner with our older son and his girlfriend.

I fell asleep.I had more fun reading/seeing the pics in today's newspaper.

Usually Ricky Gervais is hysterically funny. Last night he was anything but funny. It was truly odd.

I didn't like January Jones' dress at all. Didn't like Halle Berry's dress -- looks like she's trying too hard to be sexy. Loved the color of Angelina Jolie's dress, but thought the little bitty shoulder pads were odd. I loved Oliva Wilde's dress!

Lindsey, we have the same taste in dresses. (I didn't say I liked January Jones' dress, just that I'd never be able to wear it. :-))

I was curious, so I went to YouTube and watched Ricky Gervais' monologue and selected bits. It really was like someone performing at a roast, only the occasion of an awards show didn't call for it at all. Some of the remarks, like calling Bruce Willis Aston Kucher's father, were just plain stupid, IMO. And whoever heard of the host insulting one of the nominated movies? Not to mention the awful comment he made about the head of the foreign press. Oy.

He sounded almost sincere at the very end.....until he got to his final comment (when he thanked God). That's another remark I would classify as just plain stupid. And I am not putting down atheists. Or agnostics. Or anyone else. His remark just seemed to have no context. I'm thinking maybe it was an old joke he just threw in there, perhaps in desperation.

I loved Olivia Wilde's dress too . She looked beautiful with no jewelery or fancy hair style. Ricky Gervais was a little over the top. I missed a few of his more caustic comments. Some were just dumb like the remark to Bruce Willis . Ordinarily I find him very amusing. I doubt he'll return to host, although he said he wasn't reprimanded.

I'm curious why Globe emcees don't have script writers. If they do, it's hard to imagine that many bad and rude jokes getting through.

When Eva Longoria walked on stage, I actually gasped. She just looked flawless and seeing how it was live TV, I'm pretty sure she wasn't even Photoshopped. :-)

I didn't watch the show. But I heard many of Ricky's digs
all day long on the radio. I thought some were funny.
When he was hired, I can only imagine that they knew him
and his style.
And no, not many in the audience were laughing, because
he was throwing digs at their peers. Snobby hollywood
types who ususally don't have a problem giving THEIR
thoughts on people. (yeah, yeah, not all of them
are snobby. lol )

The Ada for the show told us that he was going to insult the ego inflated stars. Everyone knew what was coming. The show used gervais because they knew whe would create a buzz. Looked like it worked.

I tried to watch but got disgusted with the potty mouthed host. IMHO and turned it off. I'm glad Colin Firth won since I enjoy his acting

I'm a Ricky Gervais fan and have been for a long time. I really enjoyed his caustic humor. Let's face it, they all know the truth about these people and he was putting it out there. It was sarcasm set to comedy. The skit on Charlie Sheen was spot on. The press treated Charlie like it was no big deal. Ricky was showing his take on things. The network gave him free rein to do what ever he wanted and he took it and ran with it. Oh and think of all the shows that Sinatra and Dean Martin would be drinking.

I like Ricky Gervais, I find his delivery impeccable, the people who decided to let him host had to have known it would be outrageous, not a surprise.

I dislike the "nude" colored dresses, I think they don't flatter anyone, even the prettiest of stars.

I just did not like the red rose on Knightly's dress and I hope she was giddy out of embarrassment. All the discussions with her revolved around her pregnancy. She should GET MARRIED first and worry about award shows next year!
Sandra's hair was horrid. The bangs in the face thing wasn't working for her. I am so glad I was not seeing the ratted, teased buns the teens are wearing at school. '60's Bee Hive is back and it is AWFUL! I loved that over all, the gals were covering up. The open backs were so sexy!! I hope the lack of cleavage catches on with the High School crowd. We bopped in and out at commercials on other shows we were watching so I was spared much of Ricky's torrents, but he sure got blasted yesterday on the news shows. Good, mean should be OUT.

We didn't watch it, but I watched Ricky Gervais's monologue online and greatly enjoyed it. Robert de Niro's, on the other hand, seemed pretty forced and awkward.
