Just realized how long it's been since I posted anything after our Lily had to cross the Rainbow bridge.
We had to put her to sleep in May. Shortly after a friend posted on her FB page a picture from a local animal rescue about two dogs they wanted to have adopted together. I swear everywhere I looked I'd see Lily and seemed to be saying "Dad those two need a good home" or "You and Geo loved me, don't you want someone else to love?"
After a week of deliberation I showed their picture to Geo. His remark? "Oh it can't hurt to just go look." Kind of like saying you're just going to look at new cars.
So on the second of June Beulah (the Basset) and Bernadette (the Beagle) came to live with us. They both provide us with endless of hours of entertainment, and Beulah is particularly good at doing things she knows she shouldn't. Like helping de-decorate the tree.
So here is one of my favorite pictures.

Comments (10)I lost a precious young cat to it as well. In her case it was fast and deadly. She seemed the peak of health and vigor and a week later was fighting to breath. The doc pulled off the fluid around her lungs ( I had no clue it could present itself like that) and he was also amazed tht she was so healthy and robust and had never seen a cat be compromised so quickly from it. It didn't help that this cat, who had never set foot on earth, but raised totally indoors had FLV (mother was a feral born kitten), and that probably set her up with the response from the corona virus. He also gave me the option of steroids and bringing her back in to drain off the fluids to keep her with us as long as possible. I told him to immediately put her out of her misery. I wasn't going to put her through that. Calvinette was about six then, and had just lost her mother from cancer. Very hard to wrap your mind around with it just comes barreling at you with no warning. I remember the posters in the vet's office years ago when there was thought to be a vaccine effective against it, but it's not recommended anymore. FIP is not a virus induced disease in the strict sense of the word, but an immune response to a common, and often minor viral infection. I'm so sorry for your loss. Of course it hurts, a lot. Comments (41)Another word of advice....With the hopes that this won't offend or bother you, or dampen the party going on here........but .....Motherhood isn't always wonderful either..It's really hard work, really tiring, stressful and there are many more blanks we could fill in to warn you of how hard it can be but just take it easy and remember to take time for yourself and your husband too. Too much too soon/too fast for all of you .....the kids and you and husband isn't a good thing.....Remember that now is the time to be creating the rules and standards that you all will be living with forever. They are young and abused but they need and you must set ground rules and the quicker the better because it is not all about fun and games....The are, or will be in a grieving stage for their life that is gone, whether they mention it or not, and it will be easy to overlook misbehavior or misconduct or just to let things slide for now..because you are their Mother now and you want to make life wonderful for them, you want to make up for all they have missed and probably for all that you have missed...but really .....you need to make the house/ground rules now and let them know what you expect of them and importantly let them know what to expect from you...believe me if a child gets away with something a few times and then you decide it's not a good thing, they will not accept easily when you change the rule in midstream......they are smart little cookies and it sounds to me like they have had enough disappointments in their little lives....... what a wonderful thing for all of you.....Sending lots of good luck and good wishes to you all........See MoreNew puppy 6 weeks after losing another
Comments (36)I was surprised to see how small she was too. I agree with annz, she looks like a spaniel to me, not sure I see much Golden in her. " I realized as I crouched on the floor with her and rubbed her back while she got sick that on some level that I really do love her (finally). It's just a different love than before, but not in a bad way, if that makes sense." I had a similar situation with one of our dogs. We got her at about 3 yrs and for a long time I wondered if it was a mistake. Her behaviour was hmm, problematic in many ways which frustrated me. One day she had an allergic reaction and I realised just how worried I was for her, took her off to the after hours vet etc. The thing is, we do have different relationships with different pets. I've had really close relationships with about half the dogs I've ever owned, where they were like my baby and the bond was just so very strong. I didn't have this with all my dogs though, but I still loved them all very much and would do anything for them. Just my experience, but each of these relationships is different in it's own way but that doesn't mean something is wrong and it seems like you feel your bond with her should be just like it was with your pug girl, no I don't believe that. Treat each pet as an individual because each of them is a different dynamic....See More
