Yeah...weird subject phrase, I know!
Just got our weekly newspaper from my little Eastern-ND hometown, and the front-page headline was "Hoopin' in Hawaii", all set on a pink backdrop. One of the girls IS from my hometown!! Only a couple girls from SD I guess...mostly small Eastern ND towns.
10 girls from ND/SD (all SMALL towns...!) competed in the Annual "Elite Sports King Kamehameha Summer Basketball Tournament" held June 22-28 in Oahu.
From the article, "Team Dakota"...
"The team breezed through the competition, besting teams from across the nation as they went undefeated..."
Their 1st victory was against host-team Kamehameha 65-33.
Then beating Oklahoma Select 61-31.
Then beating Gulf-Coast (Miss./Georgia) 70-36.
Another victory over Oahu Elite 52-41.
(It doesn't mention how many other games, if any...)
The article also mentions the ND/SD coaches comments...
"You don't win games by 30+ points over good opponents unless you have outstanding talent. We also drew raves from the Hawaiian-Tournament committe in not only how well we played, but of even more significance how classy our girls were! What that means is that we not only brought over a good bunch of BB players, but even better people."
Couldn't help but let my chest get a little puffed-out when I read that! Especially since we were in Oahu just over a year ago...siiiighhh!
See...even up here in "the hinterlands", there's some talent!
