New Spring and Summer Shoes - show us yours!
Comments (54)Boopadaboo - I think I wore the same pair as rocky while traipsing through Disney - mine are ECCO soft 7. I purchased mine at Nordstrom Rack. The discontinued colors were 40% cheaper there. I almost returned them because they aren't as cushy as the shoes I usually wear. But I did wear them to Disney and after 10 miles of walking I had no blisters, no backache and no sore feet....See MoreHelp me style this dress, please
Comments (118)OK, so we have people do notice and judge what you wear, and you should wear what makes you feel good about yourself. But put those two together and, as long as you are within some norm of appropriateness, people may notice but not remember much and their judgments, if any, will be mild and unexpressed. But if you dress beyond the norm for age/size/occasion/etc then recognize that you will get a higher level of attention and will face more judgment. If that makes you uncomfortable, then the outfit will too. I still remember my cousin's daughter (17 at the time?) who wore a dress to her GF's funeral...met her for the first time there... that was cut so low and so tight on top, that I remember nothing else except spending the whole time hoping she wouldn't sneeze and have a wardrobe malfunction. I don't remember anything about her, but I sure remember that dress! If she wanted attention, she got it, but maybe not the kind she expected. And like the diamond on paisley, I don't even remember the 'diamond'. A good outfit will make you shine, not the outfit. However, when it comes to putting together an interesting outfit, Stacy & Clinton had a mantra of "color, pattern, texture, shine" ...having some of each in an outfit will make it interesting. And my wardrobe was getting very boring with all the solids...a hangover from the formal business world I think...and now I find myself using scarves or printed tops to make it more interesting and casual....See MoreThe "In Between" for shoes??
Comments (42)Apparently I am even more shoe challenged than I thought. I am scouring the thread for any and all suggestions. I realized that in addition to needing nicer than sneakers, I also really do need extremely comfortable sneaker like shoes ( which could be sneakers or boots) that are water proof or at least resistant. All the sneakers lately are the woven/mesh/cloth. When I walk the pooch , even though it's mostly on paved trails and paths, if we go to any part of grass early morning, there is dew and I feel that for sure. Those Reikers look good. I am now convinced that I will probably have to order online, but I will make a trip to DSW to see if I can at least try on some tried and true brands for fit. (I think I am generally 8 1/2 medium to wide but you know...).. The Khombu boots and sandals that I have gotten at Costco are wonderful- but so far the booties have been the faux suede which doesn't look very pretty for more than hiking. But oh so comfy...See MoreDress Me.
Comments (52)Glad your outfit worked for you -- I don't worry about being overdressed because IF I am, it is usually because of a jacket, shoes or jewelry-- which to me reflect style more than level of formality. Of course they can elevate a look but still, I see it more as my style. <<Nevertheless, I need something a little frou-frou or boho or whatever it is called>> I think our dressy styles may be similar-- as when I was working, I too had a lot of Talbots staples that I punched up with jewelry or something a little funkier purchased elsewhere. We are also the same height.. so a few thoughts/experiences with froufrou or boho pieces: I am also attracted to JW but I find they just don't look great on me. The prints are fun but the shapeless or baggy styles just don't hang as well on me as, say, EF's boxy styles. I also find their proportions aren't right for me (5'6" and long torso/short legs). I have had some good luck with Free People-- though not ALL their styles work for me and their fabric content isn't always great. Sometimes Anthropologie too but not as frequently. I am also seeing some fun stuff at Sundance this season-- especially jackets. My go-to for adding a boho/funky touch to a classic outfit is jewelry-- followed closely by scarves though I just don't wear them as much as I used to. I don't tend to go far with shoes only because I wear a size 10 so some of the cute, fun shoes look ridic on me-- but as I remember, you have some adorably cute flats (do I remember that you have the ny taxi flats?). Just think how many outfits you can make with black slacks/jeans and a dressier black long sleeve tee just by swapping fun scarves, jewelry, belts and shoes in and out! I never regret an accessory purchase like I might regret a clothing purchase. Oh but speaking of clothing purchases and EF.. while I don't really think of EF as boho or funky.. sometimes her colors are. I have had a lot of fun these last few months with a pair of Cilantro colored linen pants. It's just this side of "unusual" and I have gotten so many compliments when I wear them. They are brighter than olive but more earthy than other greens. Not suggesting you run out and get the same color-- just suggesting that sometimes the slightest nudge outside of classic colors can be fun! I have had similar experiences with other EF colors in past seasons. Bark is a favorite and wish they'd bring it back!...See Morebbstx
