Old Man Grows up or True Confessions!
Comments (6)and you really should follow through with your plan.... the one and only precaution I can even think of, as far as being a Big Brother, is that to choose places that would be within any medical help, should either of you need it. save the fishing at a lake, in a remote area, for if you have a family close by, or medical things somewhere close. not to ever suggest it, but hey, even in the best of circumstances, it's always good to have what's necessary and someone who knows how to handle it. being alergic to bees, too....if the kid should be...you know, you'd have the bee kit...and on and on.... and now, to the point.... there is no age limit, as long as the agency approves.. a kid, is a kid, is a kid, who wants attention, affection, to learn from someone, who will take the time to share of themselves and to be appreciated. in turn, they learn how to share of themselves, and to appreciate others. the circle can only be made stronger. I have a son, who needed a big brother, as he was growing up..he and I couldn't be in the same room... we had a neighbor, who rather became a big brother, minus the agency...they fished together, here in the neighborhood..they built things... my boy could go to him, when he would have liked to run away from home, from me. he never needed to run...he had options. be that Big Brother to some boy.. for the rest of their life, they will remember simple things, which will then manifest into bigger memories, for when they either become a father or uncle or later maybe, a Big Bother for someone else. and going on 58 is no closed gate... I'm headed for 61 and still kicking around the thought of fostering a baby, who's at the hospital, right now, from being born to a meth mom.. I have no idea of who the mom or baby is, but I'm still giving it some thought....the little girl is less than a week old and has virtually nothing going for her...mom's in jail...... Do It....and don't look back........except to wave, at everyone, to show how much fun you're having!!! Becky .(*_*)....See MoreOld man grows up OR True Confessions.
Comments (14)You are right that it is very hard for kids to lose an important relationship and they tend to blame themselves. So you were right to wait! That said I think it is wonderful that you want to do it. I love the ads on tv lately, saying that there are young boys ready and willing to share their friendship and wisdom with an adult man (every one of whom is precious.) It can be a wonderful fufilling experience and you sound like you have a lot to give. I have been a big sister, in my 20s. (I am now 53.) I had some regrets because after about a year the girl had some major problems, did something rather terrible (not to me), moved around and we lost touch. I think if I had been older and more experienced (I have since been a foster parent, and also worked with children and families with difficulties,) I would have looked for her and found her and stuck it out as her friend. Most kids looking for big brothers and sisters are not as troubled, fortunately, but it can happen. My caution is to make sure that there is a very experienced person that you can talk to, and that you are willing to do it, in case there are difficulties. This is what was lacking in my case. Good luck, I hope I haven't scared you away. I know of many matches that were wonderful experiences creating important long term relationships. Let us know. kathy...See MoreI have a confession to make...Les, you around?
Comments (21)Pesky - I don't like mayo or mw although I do use them in recipes. Just waving the knife over the bread for a sandwich is enough for me LOL. I also dilute mayo with sour creme or yogurt sometimes. The yogurt/mayo combo is really good in a chicken salad I make, I also use poppy seed in the dressing. Jane - I am going to do that tomorrow! Where is my head??!! We have mint growing like crazy just outside the kitchen and I have not used any yet this year! I love iced tea with mint. I also love it with lemon, lime and or orange slices. I also use Luzianne or Tetly decaf tea. I can't remember who asked about the sweet tea - but yes, here in the South we do sweet tea. Not that we necessarily use sugar - I normally use the splenda half/sugar blend if we are having others, but hubby and I usually do just regular splenda. And I don't make tea as sweet as some southerners do - say like my grandmother LOL. We grilled tonight and yes, enjoyed a pitcher of SWEET ice tea. LOL tina...See MoreGardenWeb peeps - if you have contacted me....
Comments (70)I may have messaged you a few months ago when you first mentioned this brilliant idea - but I'll send another one just in case. I don't have a problem with things as they are but as others have mentioned 'conversations' may be on the way out. Thank you so much for doing this. Maire....See Morechispa
