B daylilies 2018

Quote of the day: " I love asking kids what they want to be when they grow up because I'm still looking for ideas!"

Boy Crazy is one of my favorites, tall and lovely color.
This was added fall of 2016, had a few blooms this season, I think I'm going to like it.
Nice pink, great substance.
Love the close up photos of this one, I like the dotted petals. I added three B's last season that haven't bloomed yet, looking forward to those.

    Part 2

    Blessed Art Thou: Great plant

BLUE EYES GLANCE: One of the few Lambertson daylilies I continue to grow. It is a bit tender here. It performs better in a pot than in the ground.

Blueberry Breakfast: An oldie but a goodie

Bohemian Rhapsody: Good plant , but not my favorite color scheme, so it left the garden this past year. Just can't keep them all.

BOLD MARAUDER: One of my favorites

    BORDER CROSSING: Love the contrast

Borg Technology: It also left the garden this year. Was not in the plans for hybridization.

BOUNDLESS BEAUTY: Love this plant. No problems opening.

BRIDGETON CORSAGE: Great little plant. It is on tall scapes.

BUDDY's BLACK LADY: Too new to evaluate

BURNING ANGEL: Also left the garden this year. Under performed.

    BUTTERCREAM: Great plant

    That's all for me.

Is Panic in Detroit a crispate? Paige's Pinata was always weak here. Palace Garden Beauty has been a bit frustrating because of sometimes quirky opening. Paradise Bar and Grill --more recent Hanson that has been sought after. Pink Lemonade Party --would be happier farther south Parable of the Net --comes off more pastel in garden Ohio Skies --have a hunch this will not be a strong grower in the garden (Hanson) Peggy Jeffcoat --lovely Part Time Princess --made a great show this past year Purify My Heart --seems to have been weaker the past few years Peggy Bass --lovely, but not really well budded Orange City --Dick recommended it, but it has been reluctant to bloom so far Purple Tempest --an old Webster that really attracted attention in 2017

WHALE TAILS - I've used this one in hybridizing A LOT and you do get lots of whale tail patterns. WHEN MY SWEETHEART RETURNS - nice one from Apps that reblooms late. WHITE CHOCOLATE - saw this in Margo's garden and had to order it. She and Jim produce too many really nice "whites" and one can only use to many whites in the garden. WHITE FORMAL - Lenington 1965. Awful picture. Planted way over by the fence in the back yard and I've just never bothered to get rid of it ... I'll try to check to see if it is even there still. It did win lots of awards in its day. WHITE STRIPE - reblooms here, not all foliage is variegated by any means - quite a whitish flower. WHITE ON RICE - instant rebloom - not very white but very pretty WHITE EYES PINK DRAGON WILD WILD AND WONDERFUL WILD THORNBERRY - new here and not wonderful yet

Best Patterned Daylilies of the 2018 Season

    Q

    Comments (26)
All the patterned daylilies posted are amazing. I especially like Bow Tie Affair and Stenciled Infusion. Karen, your seedlings are lovely. I hope they have good plants under those beautiful flowers. Here are my best patterns. Geometric Wizard continues to be one of my favorites. It does very well here for a southern-bred daylily. Curious Cutie is from the same hybridizer and I have often wondered if they share genetics. Its biggest fault is that it turns to mush in rain, but Geometric Wizard does not. I Don't Kid is doing well here. The third flower in the background is Purple Maze which is very similar in looks. I love the delicate coloring on Ink and Pink. Four Beasts in One is not well established yet, but I like the looks of it. Oceans Eleven has been in the garden for many years. I love the eye. It often has a metallic look. Here is Get Jiggy in our garden. This is the best pattern we have seen, but we haven't seen it often. Of course, if patterns really show best in cooler weather, we aren't going to see many in west central Indiana. I know I have gone over my limit, but I have to post a pattern we found in a seedling. I didn't expect it as neither parent has a pattern. Nancy

Sherry - definitely Belle Cook for a favorite! That yellow ruffled edge makes me think of little girls' Easter dresses.
Maryl - Bodacious Bite - beautiful!
David - lots of choices there, but I'll go with Barney, which knocked my socks off at first glance - and Bold Marauder.

    So many lovely B's.

Sherry, I love your quote. Isn't it the truth. I finally found what I want to be--daylily hybridizer. Lucky for me, I'm retired with a decent pension because I have heard that daylily hybridizer is not a lucrative profession.

Sherry, I can see why you like Bot Crazy--it's a beauty!

Maryl, Bodacious Bite has been in our garden for many years. We love it--always a lovely flower and it sets seeds too.

David, Beauty in Motion is amazing. Bud Bennett must have been the king of the ruffled pinks. Bass Gibson is one of our favorites.

Aaron, Blackberries and Cream is my pick of the ones you posted. I love the eyes and edges. We just added Bela Lugosi last summer. I have heard wonderful things about it.

Here's Bass Gibson in our garden.

Beachlands is southern bred and I am afraid the weather we are having now will damage it.

Belle Curve is a nice big flower but not my favorite color.

Bengal Teeth was new to the garden last summer.

Best for Last is a nice late variety.

Betty Ford has not done that well for us.

Black Horns is not well established yet.

    Blockbuster

    Blue Martini

Bo Diddley is a vigorous grower.

    More to come ...

Aaron: Bali Watercolor and Blackberries and Cream are beauties.

David: Beauty in Motion is a really nice pink. Will have to check that one out. Also like Butter Cream

Avedon: It got a little ahead of itself in the "B" section, but I still love the color on Debary Canary. I was just wondering the other day how it grows for you.

NAN: As always so many to choose from. Beachlands intrigues me. Ever since I saw an edged/eyed apricot/lavender combination at the daylily show I've been looking around for something like it. Although on Beachlands the base looks yellow, it is a nice color combo with the eye/edge. Look forward to seeing more of it. Like the oranges, particularly Buddy's Betsy.................Maryl

You are right, Maryl, had a senior moment with Debary Canary. I really like it, but it hasn't been great for me, such a shame. It has never made the registered height which I believe is 52" or thereabouts. In our zone, you would think Stamile DLS would do well, but most of the ones we have are just so-so. Now for the last real "B"-

    BABY BLUES - a 3" little beauty

BALLERINA BEAUTIFUL - reblooms here I can tell from the tag I took this picture in Janice Kennedy's garden but I grow it too

BANNED IN BOSTON - reblooms and what's not to love

BARBARA DITTMER - another rebloomer here

BARNEY - I see several of you grow it. It reblooms and I know it's supposed to be something special but I'm just not seeing what that is.

BASS GIBSON - I've tried hybridizing with it but not much luck.

    BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS - reblooms here

BEAUTY OF THE KING - reblooms here

BEE'S BETTIE SUE - During bad rust infestation in past this one was pretty resistant.

BELA LUGOSI - I think several of you grow this. It reblooms and is nice but I'm donating it to my clubs this year.

Sorry, I was incorrect. I was looking at my spreadsheet and the column where I have what it's registered as being (EMRe in this case) is next to my actual observations. I just read the wrong column and may have done so in some other cases too. I now see it's not even registered as reblooming, so I'm going to the AHS database to recheck my facts. Hey Nancy, glad to see Bonnie Holley in her 'new' home. Is she opening up for you? Or is it too early to know in just one season? It rarely opened up all the way for me but like you say, it was a very hard working plant. It was so vigorous and the buds were plentiful. I hated to part with such a good plant but darn those sculpted blooms in my climate! Billy the Kid looks very cool. * Edited to say that I looked it up and see it is a Maryott evergreen....I have mixed results in my climate so I guess I'll pass....but it is pretty.
