Comments (8)Still under about a half a foot of snow here but it's getting a little better as the days go on. The sun is much higher and out for the better part of the day now. Temp's are finally improving to the point where any snowless ground is beginning to get soft & mushy. Spring can't get here fast enough as I have just purchased a new to me Toro 522xi GT. Always hate to make this type of purchase at this time of year, but you have act fast when a good deal presents itself. The only problem is it makes winter seem to last soooo much longer when you have a new toy, err tool that you want to use....See Morehow do I cook this ham?
Comments (14)Thanks y'all! I did follow the package instructions (was so tired I feel asleep and didn't get to do the extra glaze). I'm going to try some though. Peaches sound good for some reason. Annie, I was so proud. He was a "distinguished scholar", landed a paid internship at a highly ranked University... But hasn't decided on which university for undergraduate. He knows he'll pursue a PhD in biomedical informatics. His internship is biomedical informatics. I am tired and very very happy....See MoreNovember Week 2 2021: Thinking about Turkeys and Hams and stuff
Comments (47)Well, it's just prior to the changing of the week...and I've been cold pretty much all day. But the house is the same temperature on the thermostat, so it's just me probably. Next week this time, I'm sure I'll be soundly asleep after a trip to Wagoner. Larry, any chance you could re-consider, it's not as long a trip for you as for me? And a final set of images from Thursday's hike on the upper area of Wilson Lake. Always nice to remind everyone I have two dogs (including me). They clambered over and (in Rag's case) under the rocks like ground squirrels. Sure hard to believe we're mid November and 2021 is in it's final six weeks....See MoreGettin' chillier
Comments (11)Yea, fall weather has set in -- warm days and cool nights. I do recall two years ago we had frost in mid-September (!!), which I distinctly remember because I paid no mind to the forecast and didn't cover my butternut squash with frost blanket and they got zapped (fortunately was able to still harvest those that had already matured). We're nowhere near that this year but part of me wishes we were because the mosquitos are utterly beastly the last few weeks -- so much so that I have zero motivation to go outside to do anything, and I dread going out to harvest, it's a literal bloodfeast out there unless I suit up in long pants and sleeves and spray myself with Deet -- they just laugh at the 25% Deet, even the 40% doesn't keep them all at bay. I do have netting for my face; it isn't comfortable but I wear it anyway because I don't want Deet on my face, and I I finally broke down and bought a netted shirt yesterday, will see how that works. A good frost will zap those SOB's right out -- bring it on!...See More- 8 years ago
