can any one tell me what kind of fruit this is
Comments (9)That's definitely underripe. You want them to look deeper orange, almost bordering on purplish. You know they're ripe when they are almost falling off the tree. Some people eat them off the ground, but you don't know how long they've been there and sometimes ants or other insects are going to town on them. I like to give the tree a gentle shake and the ones that fall off are *usually* perfect to eat. They'll be mushy and it's a pain getting the skin off (usually you just want to eat the pulp) but the flavor is totally worth it....See MoreFree Sour Orange seeds
Comments (8)Ok everybody, I will be sending out seed packets to all who have requested them on Monday around lunchtime. I am giving a last call to anyone who would like some of these seeds. Once they are sent out to everyone who responded, please let me know how they do and such. I am curious to see how things go. I have planted some of the same seeds myself and have gotten about 6-7 seedlings growing in a small pot out on the deck. These seedlings get morning sun til about 1:00pm approx. The sun starts to hit their area around 9-10am. VTY -Mark...See MoreTell me I'm NOT seeing orange/peach tones in Putnam ivory ++
Comments (8)I just finished painting my spare bedroom putnam ivory this afternoon, and I'm not sure what to think of it... It kind of looked like flesh toned bandaids ( western exposure - setting sun). Hopefully I love it in the morning :) I've had a heck of a time choosing tan colors. Painted the kitchen & dining room BM wilmington tan one evening, and it looked awful the next day in full sunlight - like a butterscotch pudding explosion. I repainted it BM lenox tan and really like it. It's beige/tan/gold during the day and takes on a greenish cast at night which actually looks good also. Then I painted the mudroom & hallway BM shaker beige (on the same strip as lenox tan) but found it had pinkish tones in the daylight. I was thoroughly frustrated. Went back to the store and the very nice BM (Benjamin Moore) man printed out the formula for shaker beige and for 50% lenox tan. Almost identical, except the shaker beige had a tad more red tint. Went home with a gallon of 50% lenox tan and repainted the mudroom & hallway. It looks really similiar to the shaker beige but without the pinky cast in the evening. Next project to tackle - the master bedroom. Sheesh, can't wait to see what winner (not) I pick for the first coat, lol. Sorry to ramble on in your thread, but I share your pain in choosing colors :) Dawn...See MoreBergamot Sour Orange In Stock
Comments (14)Both the blossoms and the rind of the fruit are much more fragrant than regular oranges. Have you ever smelled bergamot, for example in tea? It doesn't really smell like orange; it smells kind of like orange and fragrant sour tangerine mixed with lemons, with maybe a little lavender too. As for what "photosensitizing" means, if you break off the peel and rub it on your skin and then go out into the sun for several hours, you'll find out. You'll get a nasty burn. Actually it's a lot more dangerous on your skin than it is to eat it. Like a lot of complicated things, this takes a little explaining. Nothing to worry about adding a few drops of bergamot essential oil to your tea, but these same drops on your skin could cause a really bad sun burn later. And by the same token, there's probably nothing wrong with trying a slice or two of the bergamot fruit, but it's not advisable to eat a whole fruit, not if you're going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time in the next few days. I'm not sure why anyone would eat a lot of bergamot though, the fruit is kind of bitter and sour. If you're going to peel the fruit, it might be a good idea to get some plastic gloves. Bergamot rind and essential oil is really good for adding fragrance and flavor to things. There are all sorts of recipes out there. The furanocoumarin mostly isn't harmful inside your body because there's no sunlight in there. But people who can't eat grapefruit because they are on certain types of medications should definitely stay away from bergamot. The bergamot oil used in perfumes is usually steam distilled, this removes 99% of the furanocoumarin. Unfortunately the distillation process does make the bergamot fragrance slightly inferior. The essential oil made from the blossoms of bergamot is very expensive and used in high end perfumes, it is called neroli....See MoreRelated Professionals
