Dreaming of a White Christma, and Red, and Pink...
Comments (2)I have never done that but should. Each year I think about it but that's as far as it gets. My amaryllis that I have had for three or 4 years now is sitting outside in a pot....I meant to put it in the ground but never got around to it. It now has a bud! Should I repot it when I bring it in before frost? It has been in the same pot all this time. I understand the bulb feeds when it is in the ground, but this is still in the potting soil....See MoreI'm Dreaming of A White Christmas......
Comments (55)Susan, Our biggest adventure is just getting out of the driveway. For the last four nights, including last night, our overnight lows have dropped to 16, 14, 16 and 16 degrees. So, all afternoon long the snow and ice melt and form huge puddles in the driveway and then at night they refreeze into what is essentially a 300-foot long skating rink. It takes that refrozen ice/snowmelt half a day to start melting again and then it forms huge puddles that refreeze again. Once you start driving down our driveway, you can't use the brakes or you'll slide and it is nerve-wracking. We have it good compared to many though, and I am not complaining, just saying that snow falling is pretty and after it falls it then is an unwelcome guest that just won't leave! Last night while we were eating dinner, our firefighters got paged out to a housefire...the 2nd one here in the last 5 or 6 days, the third one in the last month and the 4th one since November 1st. That's a lot of housefires for a county as thinly populated as ours, and I feel for the families who have had their homes damaged or destroyed. Their situation reminds me that a little ice on the ground is just an inconvenience, and not a tragedy, in the overall scheme of things. I'm going to make suet this afternoon. I hope y'all have fun on your shopping experience and be careful on the ice.....you don't want to hurt your back! Next year if I start hoping for a white Christmas, I want y'all to slap me upside the head and remind me "been there, done that, and it was a mess". OK? Dawn...See MoreDreaming of a Pink Christmas
Comments (17)Oh, I'm so happy to find other pink Christmas people! I don't have a picture of my tree but will post one after I put it up this year. I cover my white tree branches with pink feather boas instead of garland and the main theme of my ornaments are dancing poodles (pink, white and black). I've had this kind of tree for a few years so now have a good collection of ornaments but I'm looking for ideas for the mantle and stairway. Thinking of buying some more pink boas but I haven't gotten any good ideas beyond that....See MoreI'm dreaming of a White Kitchen . . .
Comments (8)DH pulled snow down from the roof this week here in St. Paul. We have a mound almost as high as the rain gutter on the one-story part of the house--we can view it from backside through the newly installed bathroom replacement window. The room is dark whether it's day or night. They say we haven't had this snowy a December since 1969. This is the snow memory of my childhood. DH has foregone work on the house because he's been plowing neighborhood driveways. Meanwhile, my children in Alaska have written about all the cold they've had--cars and computers just give up, house heaters quit, etc. etc. etc. Still haven't unpacked much of the Christmas stuff, etc. but we're using the new kitchen and trying it out in new situations, but can't schedule a full 10-on-the-Richter-Scale Christmas dinner yet and have only experimented with new convection oven twice. Will have 10 for dinner tomorrow, pot luck style, with improvised decor. Macybaby, you'll have your kitchen soon enough to be actually ready for Christmas 2011, I suspect. Perhaps you will entice your kids to join you. And I'll join you from a distance, I sure hope. Thanks for posting. Have fun paintin' the castle!...See MorePaul MI
