Staircase Wall Decor Dilemma

I need help decorating my staircase wall and positioning the table. I would love to center the console table with the wall but the thermostat would be in the way of any wall decor. I have avoided hanging anything on the wall because it wouldn't be centered. What would you do with this space? I prefer to not buy a new table at the moment. Looking for any idea!! Thanks!

I'm thinking a gallery wall might work. If you use several smaller pictures, you could work around the thermostat.

Spend the money to have the thermostat moved and the wall repaired.

move the console table a little to the left anyway it doesnt look centered to begin with
get a bigger mirror or art and flank 2 large beefy lamps on the sides. the thermistat will be hidden if you pick the right objects

Leaning ladder shelves are a trend that is pretty well on its way out, and was never a very good look. I'd opt for bookcases on each side; it will not matter if they're not symmetrical. I'd make certain to fill them primarily with books, not just as staging shelves for knicknacks, for this to look right.

I would add some colorful abstract art pieces. Since you like minimal, then canvas wraps or very simple metal frames. Perhaps a hanging plant. There is not room for anything else. No shelves, no desks, nothing. If I decided to paint the railing now, then I would choose a shade of white that is a couple of nicks darker than the wall paint, preserving the white on white look. Even a subtle change between the wall & trim color will go a long ways in relieving the monotony. Any drastic color change should wait until you have selected artwork.

I used to work for a retail furniture/decor store, she was one of our most popular artworks. :) I’d just have her there alone, no baskets on that wall. Maybe the other? Is your drawing where you’re planning to hang the art? If it were me, I’d go lower. For hanging baskets, you could cut out paper in the same sizes and use painter’s tape to play with arrangements. (I’m guessing you’re in Texas? I’m in D/FW.)

I agree this is not the best wall for an ascending gallery. You don't show the handrail wall but you could possibly have a pair of pictures facing each other at the bottom landing...one on the handrail wall and one on the light switch wall. Then at the top, something that creates a cozy space for the window seat...a pair of opposing pictures facing each other on each wall to the sides of the bench, similar to the downstairs arrangement. It would be pleasant if the four pictures -2 up and 2 down- had the same theme or style, even a set of 4 matched frames/art. Kinda unite the upstairs and downstairs.

Thank you for the input! I don't have the table centered currently because then the window frame wouldn't fit. I cannot cover up the thermostat because it is interactive (turns on when someone passes, we use it a lot).

I’d move the thermostat. Not difficult to do.

I'd sentence that worker and the gazillion just like him, who stick a thermostat, light switch, air vent, etc. in the middle of a wall with no thought to how it's going to look, to a lifetime of grief, just like the people who are trying to decorate around their handiwork.

I would also move the thermostat. We had to move three, not hard at all.
