Please help! Wall ovens driving me crazy--Wolf, Miele, Dacor?
Comments (53)Take it from me what CR says about Thermador wall ovens is absolutely true. I have purchased two 30" C series Thermador ovens and am getting ready to replace the one that was existing in the home we purchased last year. Loved the way my Thermador's cooked, baked, and broiled but had to have them repaired. It seems there is insufficient insulation between the oven and the electric control panel and when you use the self clean, over time, it causes the control panel to fail. This is a minimum $1,000 repair. I live in Dallas and there is only ONE company in this area that will service Thermador ovens because Thermador service dept is so difficult to deal with. My regular service company which is efficient and costs are fair told me they stopped servicing Thermador ovens for that reason and three others I tried said the same thing. Both my Thermador ovens needed the control panel replaced within three years of purchasing and the one in our new home could not pass inspection and had to be repaired by the seller before we moved in - yep it was the panel and it cost them $1,200. They didn't cook and it was an older oven. The space we have for the wall oven is 27" and after looking and looking and doing research and reading here and other web sites with independent reviews by actual owners we have chosen the Miele Master Chef Classic Series which has the Novatronic controls which everyone seems to love. This choice was made in part because of the rotisserie feature which we do use quite a bit along with other features we liked and which were well reviewed. It was more expensive but we went with a straight Microwave which suites our needs and we chose the Electrolux Ei27MO45TS microwave which meets all our needs and was well reviewed. Went with the Miele warming drawer because of the match and the fact that it was the same price as most other warming drawers we were considering. We stack our ovens in an unusual way which we really like with the actual wall oven first, then the microwave, and then the warming drawer. It is logical to us because the heaviest items come out of the oven and having it at the top means no stooping and it's easier on the back. We usually only use the warming drawer when we entertain and to reheat leftovers which it does so much better than a microwave. Still trying to decide on which Fridge and Freezer columns to choose but that's another forum...See MoreHelp! Do I need a new boiler!
Comments (15)Thanks to all! There are 3 Moen fixtures in the house, today I found the one which is the major problem, the shower valve upstairs. I got hot water when I turned off the second floor water! Seems the other two: 2nd floor bath sink and kitchen sink may need help also. Water pressure is being effected by something, could it be these partially failing valves? When this whole thing started, I had a plumber who replaced the cartridge in this shower at which time he said the valve needed to be replaced. He recommended Moen Legend model 3270, said it was a good basic shower valve better than what I had. He gave an estimate of $420. to replace. Seems High?? Â The following day I found there was no hot water anywhere in the house. I thought I had better fix that problem 1st, maybe it was the hot water tank or aquastat that caused the shower to have no hot water, not the valve. I called the plumber and called off the valve replacement. He thought the problem may be the aquastat and I should call the oil company to have them fix it. Round and round we go! Now I know the lack of hot water is due to the shower valve! Can I replace parts in it or do I need to replace the whole thing? Â On the combustion chamber...I looked in the port in front saw kind of spongy orange stuff, then opened the side access panel and could see the chamber and this soft material, there was more of this orange stuff on the fins which I scraped off and allot on the bottom of the chamber. Everything seems solid in there seems like it just needs to be vacuumed out. There is probably 4-5 inches of accumulation on the bottom of chamber. I probed around with a long dowel. There does not seem to be any signs of water from gaskets failing. I could not open check valve, which I thought was a mixing valve, tried hard to do so, did not budge....See MoreNeed help replacing gas boiler/hot water in MA (long)
Comments (2)Thanks for the suggestion. I took a quick look, and they don't allow any discussion of pricing. It might still be a good information source for my other questions, although I generally try to avoid sites that try to match up consumers with contractors who pay for this service. Also, I don't want to register at yet another site just to post a question. What I like about this site (That Home Site!) is that you can usually get some first-hand info from other homeowners in similar circumstances as well as from professionals who aren't competing for your business....See MorePics of hood with crazy stain - Please Help
Comments (30)My first comment was my raw gut reaction. If you order a white diamond and get a yellow one, you're surprised, even if yellow is rarer/more expensive. I think getting this wood was accidental, but you all have educated me that it's a positive thing and it looks good. It wouldn't have been my choice, but DH, who loves wood grain, is happy about all your feedback. And I am reassured, so it will definitely stay as is. After 9 months, my kitchen is done with the exception of the backsplash and hanging a picture. I sincerely appreciate all the guidance I've gotten here throughout the process....See MoreUser
