Gift ideas for conception anniversary?

Our first child will turn ten in October of the upcoming year. Which means, our own private anniversary of sorts is approaching.

Any gift ideas for the mom?

I do find the idea of a conception anniversary celebration weird and creepy, but the idea that a baby or toddler is not a person is downright scary.

Great ideas, everyone! Pbrisjar, they wanted to have a BBQ at home too. Now they think it is at their daughter's house. She thinks they will freak out at the cost and they do not intend to tell them. She is letting them think that until a couple days before. They are not fancy, have buried both sets of parents and have more than they need. She's always trying to give stuff away (nieces, nephews, kids, etc.) She is my mother's daughter - "everything should be put to good use." They have a modest home in Mexico and modest home here. When they aren't in Mexico or here, they live on a boat in Canada. They would think flowers were a big waste of money. LOL! A cake may be nice because we all could enjoy but I'm hesitant to ask the restaurant to serve the cake. It's the kids' party and I don't want to seem like I'm taking over, YKWIM? If it was going to be at someone's house, I'd do a cake in a heartbeat. Great idea. As for this couple, they still drive the Toyota they bought (used) when the kids were young (it's immaculate). You could say they live life to the fullest, between their camper and boat, and two *very* modest homes. My sister cuts her hair every three months, so when she cuts it, she cuts it very, very short. :+" My sister thinks my house is fancy and it's always a work in progress. LOL!

I came to this site looking for ideas for my parents who are trying to come up with a good 50th anniversary gift for my grandparents as well. I appreciate the ideas that have been posted thus far. I do have a suggestion for the group - My mom made a cross-stitch blanket that is hanging above my grandparents' bed for one of their anniversaries. It's basically a family tree and includes a square for each person - My mom stiched i.e. "John" (son) and his birthdate and then "Jane" (wife) and her birthdate, and in between the two - their wedding anniversary date. And then below John and Jane are the three kids and their birthdates. In each person's square she stitched a little item that represents that person - like my square has a piano because I play piano... my cousin's has a baseball, etc. It was VERY well received and it's perfect because we know how when you get old you are very good at forgetting dates! I thought this was the best gift idea ever and it was very well received. And every time a new family member is added, my Mom just updates the blanket.... The problem is now, we have their 50th anniversary coming up and this past anniversary gift is going to be very hard to top.

So, I did order a variation of the one I posted. It will be one picture with part of the speech printed on the side. They'll send me a proof and if possible, I'll see about sharing it here (dh might get the witness protection edit treatment though.) I want to do something in addition to this though. Oh, and here's the thing--we never ordered a wedding album, (just lazy, we have a thumb drive of 700 pictures to pick and choose from). So, this will be our first framed wedding picture. It will go in our bedroom most likely, or, possibly on a shelf in our library. There is a really good Chinese restaurant near us, but it is short on ambiance. That kind of bothers me for an anniversary dinner. The other thing is we both like Asian art, so I would be open to some small gesture in that department. (oh, Mtn, I gave dh a pair of cufflinks with an engraving on them that makes absolutely no sense to anyone else. He loves them.)

Okay, I didn't answer because I thought that it was super weird. And to make it even more weird, you ask for ideas from strangers? I don't think that this type of celebration is a "thing", but if it is, I think it should be a very private one.

Why is it any more "weird" than the child's very birthday? Is anybody here, on a marriage forum, still under an impression, children are brought by storks? An impression now "ruined", perhaps?

Yes, it should be a private affair -- and that is why I'm asking strangers, and not my mother in law.

If anything is "weird" here is the reaction -- I wish I could just delete my question, but it seems like there is no such option.

No, no one here is under the impression that children are brought by storks, but celebrating birthdays is a celebration of the person. Celebrating the fact that you screwed your partner and it "worked" is just creepy.

At ages 1 and 2, perhaps even older, there is no "person" to celebrate yet. Yet there is plenty of celebrations. Further, birthdays loose significance as people get older -- even though they are becoming more mature and established (thus celebration-worthy) persons.So, no, it is the celebration of birth -- a biological act. And, yes, I can also express it in terms as base and crude as you just used, colleenoz, to describe an earlier act that made it possible.

Oh my. Doofus, I honestly thought that your initial post was a hoax and that you were just a lurker trying to get a rise out of people. I'm surprised that you came back and posted more. But ... I'm still thinking that this is a joke.

If not, I've never, ever heard of a "conception anniversary" and I agree that it's downright weird. The anniversary of copulation that turned into a human being (and yes, even a baby or a toddler IS a person). Hmmmmm...... nope. Eeek. Is this what millennials are doing now? Yikes. Creeeeeeepppppy.

Do you really think that your wife would appreciate it? If so, go for it. But I recommend that you don't speak of the celebration in mixed company. Unless your peers are all into the same thing. (right now I'm smacking my forehead and saying "erase, erase, erase!").

In any case, how would you be certain that any given act of copulation was "the one". It's rarely an "exactly nine months" thing. To be sure you'd have to commemorate every time you did it.

But the supposed kid in question is 10 according to the original post. Shouldn't there be a concept of a person by now? I still have to wonder if this is a joke because the kid is 10 in one post and only 1 or 2 in another?

I think I'm entitled to the "Ugh Factor" on this post, because my own mother use to call me and wish me a "Happy Conception Day" each year. You think it's gross and creepy in this scenario, try hearing it from your own mother each year. I'm almost 50, so she ain't no millennial. She obviously has other issues, and boundaries problems are high on that list. This type of behavior is why we don't talk much anymore.

Yeah, a little creepy if he is for real, and it's altogether possible from my own experience. In thinking about my own mother, maybe it's just a really narcissistic way to make one more thing in life all about themselves?

OMG !! I stumbled upon this post and it definitely added a bit of levity to my morning( you will see in a minute, I have a very sarcastic personality.) I agree, the whole concept of a conception anniversary is ...odd..

But, since you celebrate it, and asked for gift ideas, how about a pearl necklace, to signify that it could have ended a whole different way?

I understand what you mean Doofus, you and your husband are celebrating the fact that you produced a wonderful child and there's nothing wrong with that. We always give gifts to our children to celebrate and the one who's birthday is occurring and that child always gives a gift to me. We like doing this. Sorry that people were rude but since you are the Mom, wouldn't you be the one to choose the gift?
