Irish Anniversary Gift Ideas needed. :)

Hi all. Our 7 year anniversary is coming up on March 17th--St. Patty's day! DH and I are both Irish and had a great little wedding and Irish reception. Every year, we try to do something Irish-y to celebrate, but Irish restaurants are always packed with drunken college students on the actual day.

I want to get DH something nice this year for our anniversary, since it will be the last one we celebrate with just the two of us.

I was thinking to get him a personalized Irish Pub sign for his "man cave" (our basement). We have tons of pub glasses/Guiness stuff and I already got him a really nice pendant on a leather cord for the baby's birth, so no jewelry.

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Bearcat, how about a family coat of arms?

Here's mine, from my paternal side, for instance.

Years ago I got my DBIL a neck tie in the family clan plaid. A search might find them if you are interested.

I came to this site looking for ideas for my parents who are trying to come up with a good 50th anniversary gift for my grandparents as well. I appreciate the ideas that have been posted thus far. I do have a suggestion for the group - My mom made a cross-stitch blanket that is hanging above my grandparents' bed for one of their anniversaries. It's basically a family tree and includes a square for each person - My mom stiched i.e. "John" (son) and his birthdate and then "Jane" (wife) and her birthdate, and in between the two - their wedding anniversary date. And then below John and Jane are the three kids and their birthdates. In each person's square she stitched a little item that represents that person - like my square has a piano because I play piano... my cousin's has a baseball, etc. It was VERY well received and it's perfect because we know how when you get old you are very good at forgetting dates! I thought this was the best gift idea ever and it was very well received. And every time a new family member is added, my Mom just updates the blanket.... The problem is now, we have their 50th anniversary coming up and this past anniversary gift is going to be very hard to top.

Are you musically inclined and patient with children? How about organizing the grand and great grand children to put on a performance for their grandparents. They can dress in the style that was popular when they married and they can sing the songs that have the most meaning to the couple. I saw this recently and it was a hit. You can even take it a step further and have them (or you) read out prices of items from 50 years ago, and headlines. Hopefully you're close enough to the family to do this without feeling like you're intruding, but it's something unique that they probably won't forget.

Hi Sue! Thanks for thinking of us and asking! I ended up getting DH a personalized pub sign for his "man cave" (our basement). He really liked it, and he's hard to buy for, so I'm glad it worked out. :) I mentioned in another post that DH got me green amber earrings with a celtic silver flair along with a beautiful green amber pendant. He took me to an amber store right before our anniversary dinner and had me pick it out. He's the best!

maddielee I don't intend to keep this up forever, just the first 5 years and working with the traditional list makes it fun/challenging. sushi I considered art but decided against it - too personal and they have no place to hang art. yes mtn, they are literally in a tiny house, they have a now 3 year old daughter and a cat and a growing collection of outbuildings. Drying clothes on a line when they worked at Sequoia Nat' Park worked, but not in the PNW so they had to buy a dryer which then had to have its own shed..... mouse meet cookie. DS is project engineer at Olympic Nat'l Park, they live on rented land (private acreage), DIL is finishing up a teaching degree and will be doing her student teaching at the end of the year, I have to make sure any gift is worth giving. Made this wood recipe binder for DIL's last b'day because she saves family recipes. This is their house when DGD was a baby and before they added their big covered deck. But it's still tiny.

A coat of arms painted on the wall of his "man-cave" would be neat looking. It would need to be well-done though, sort of rustic looking. I know you guys have painter friends, maybe they could do it?

Seven is a lucky number, "luck o' the Irish"...

I've seen several pieces of Beleek china. It is absolutely beautiful, as thin as eggshells, and translucent. A piece of Beleek would be a lovely gift.
