Who told you to put the electrical connection 4 ft above the sink???? Can you lower it!

That is the wrong type of light for over a mirror. It's a side sconce. You need a light with shades that are open on the bottom for the light to shine downward.

Uttermost makes a lot of different styles of mirrors. I'd get a metal frame with a little detail but not too ornate because the sink is a standard pedestal sink. Since your light will go overhead, stick with a rectangular shape.

With your beautiful wallpaper I would be tempted to hang a Mexican punched metal mirror above the sink, like this one from myrustica.com (Tin Mirror "River Stone"). The Small size measures 24" x 36". Not sure how it would work with your selected wall sconce, however. Here...I've mocked up your photo.

Your wallpaper is gorgeous!! The sink and trim look great with it, but that sconce is really not going to do them any favors. Your elec. box is already high and that sconce is going to be WAY up there. It also looks very contemporary for the style of your sink and faucets and trim. I'd seriously look into having the designer buy it from you, try to return it, or just cut my losses and find something that's going to work and look better.

I'd figure that out before deciding on a mirror, then I'd do cardboard cutouts to mimic the size you think will work and set it on something you could sit on the back of the sink to raise it to proper height (like cardboard boxes) and see what you think.

I didn't say it, but I like your wallpaper too. You could try stick pins for your own vision, in person.

If you have the information on your sconce (manufacturer, model, model #), look it up on line (e.g., Lamps Plus). Then ask whether it can be mounted facing down. Usually if the glass shade is installed with a ceramic ring, the fixture can be installed either way.

IMO the mirror is just fine as is and certainly I would not choose any mirror that is not as simple as possible to highlight that wall paper. as for the sconce that will be a problem

Thanks all for the input! I love the wallpaper too even though it wasn't something I would've necessarily picked on my own. I am going to see if I can return the sconce. I think the designer picked that sconce because we also install a recessed light above the sink. Her reasoning was the sconce would simply be decorative rather than really functional. In any case so glad we fired her based on all the other mistakes that have been made. Best thing to come out of the relationship was paint color for main floor and powder room wallpaper.

Patricia Colwell - thanks. I agree with a simple mirror. I do like this mirror but after seeing it held up in the room it is very short. Do you have suggestions for the sconce / light above mirror?

Even if only decorative, it still isn't the right type of sconce. The reason it has two shades is it's supposed to go between two mirrors, as Beth said. It could go on the side wall but in that case, a more decorative style would be nicer, acting like a piece of sculptural art.

Sherise by Uttermost has about the right touch of interest for a metal frame and won't overpower the wallpaper and pedestal sink. It's brushed nickel and measures 21"x35". If you want a little bling, give it to the mirror or the light, not both.

I don't know anything about hanging sconces and all that - but your wallpaper is gorgeous. enjoy it:)

Coming back to this after the holidays. We still don't have the sconce up or a mirror. What should come first?? Turns out if I return the sconce we will be out around $90-100 which is annoying but not as bad as $500. I still haven't seen it in person since the contractor ordered it and he has been MIA since 12/24. However, I contacted the showroom directly where it was purchased and the in house designer suggested trying to hang the sconce upside down as long as the shades down fall out. What do you think? Sounds like I would be settling - no?

I am also leaning toward a simple clean rectangular beveled mirror or a very simple pivot mirror. What are your thoughts between the 2?

Comes in a few other colors which are really pretty as well. I'm obsessed with it.

Cut your losses on the sconce and get the proper lighting. I have never seen that style of sconce hung upside down, nor over a mirror. I tell ya, these designers sometimes!

Reemanu, in response to your question about mockups, for my mockup I used Microsoft Paint.

Some sconces can be reversed to shine up or down. Maybe that's one of them?
