Fargo's turn @ some serious weather....
Comments (4)Lurk- Ick. THAT wouldn't be ANY fun! There's still lotsa tree-parts around town and surrounding areas. Even well into western MN, too. Came out of Northern SD. It was a loooonnng curved line of heavy weather. Some areas measured transient 80mph wind gusts! Faron...See More'Lovely' weather in Fargo lately....Uffda
Comments (14)Thanks - we were heading out to dinner on my birthday, twisting narrow road with no shoulder, DH thought someone coming other direction was over the line so he got over on the shoulder, road was eroded and had a chunk out of the edge, he hit it 40 mph, blew a hole in the tire. Rim's OK, broke a stud getting it off so my dad looked at it yesterday. Seems to be true, so I got 2 new tires mounted, they said replacing the stud would be more involved than the 1/2 hr they quoted me so I had them put wheel (and new tire) on with 3 studs/lugs, DH and my dad will pull it apart today and replace the stud (may have to replace bearing too if they damage it pulling the hub off). No one hurt, we pulled off on the dirt a little farther, could have been worse. But I *really* didn't want to spend $200 on new tires for a car with 168,500 miles on it (esp. for my birthday - I could have spent that on the house!). Oh well, just did the brakes, so now it should be good for a couple more years. DH said "Maybe somebody's trying to tell us something about this car." I replied "Maybe somebody's trying to tell us to stay off this road!" (I ran over something on that road and got a flat on the Explorer 2 yrs ago, but I needed new tires anyway). Then "Hon, if you want to get rid of this car, you don't have to run it off the road with the whole family in it LOL!" (DH wants a pickup truck, I told him he can trade in the Explorer but we need a crew cab and an 8 ft bed - I can't see getting 6 ft when I can fit 8-9ft boards in the Explorer if I go b/t the bucket seats onto the dash.) "Oy" is the best translation I can think of for "Uffda" then too. Thanks for the explanation....See MoreUffda! Unexpected knee news...
Comments (12)Oh you folks here are "the bomb!"!! We didn't inquire much about PT...we were pretty surprised about the "Best-fix" diagnosis! Still trying to wrap my head around "needing a re-lined" knee & knee-cap!!!! Such an Uffda moment don'cha know...;-) In a way, I got kinda "numb" to all the different joint-repair stories/advancements over so many years. It just becomes kind of a "back-of-mind" thought...something I NEVER thought would "apply to me". Well surprise Faron...it's in your LAP now! The more I think about it, I lean towards the surgery. "Get it fixed RIGHT...the FIRST time!" I'm not scared of surgery at all for the most part. As Marti inquired about, late fall/winter is the slower time at work overall. I'd rather be back to full-speed by spring!! The Dr. did mention Synovisc (sp??) shots, & that many do get some relief for a time. Others don't realize much benefit. He'd also be fine with "scoping" for now. It would help with my minor swelling for a time, but doesn't really address the REAL issue. He's been in Fargo now since 1980, & did 3 hip procedures on DW's Dad. Very well thought of in Fargo & our tri-state area. I'm comfortable with him. He took a lot of time to explain everything! Comments (7)Beth4, Hey! I was winding-up my NDSU-time in '84-'86! >>> I don't believe those blizzard/traffic deaths were in Downtown Fargo... They were out near the airport on 19th Ave. N. Its' an East-West road that fills-in FAST because of the 8' high fences that ring the airport. (most of that fence is ~75' from the road...) Therefore, snow starts building-up in a hurry across that road if winds are from the North! They were driving thru drifts when they shouldn't have even been on that road. TXJ, We're NOT 30 below. THAT was a few days ago...;-) * We DID set a record low for the date tho...MINUS 33 ACTUAL temp, not this Wind-Chill silliness... * G. Forks had minus 36 I think. * Thur. nite tho, we'll get back down to minus 25 they say!! * Breathing air THAT cold almost "hurts" in a way! But still...people here go shoppin'....snow "creaks" when you walk on it... * We've been "kinda" laughing at all the Today Show "drama" about the cold places! Reporters commenting on "special alerts" about temps in the "teens"...wow.... * I DON'T laugh at the ag-growers though, that's serious business. I'm just talkin' about the "crisis-mode" mentality weather news. We just roll our eyes and head out the door...20 degrees colder than everyone else... * Jeeezzzz...I've worn SHORTS when it's plus 20 out!!!! Faron...See MoreFaron79
