'Lovely' weather in Fargo lately....Uffda

In mid Sept. (my B-day week!), we must've had 10 days in the mid-80's!!!

Then went down to 70's for a few days.

This past weekend, the big cold-front came thru...so now we're mid 50's for HI's this week.

Right now...and ALL DAY today...rain of varying intensities.

We're now at a chilly 46 degrees...Uffda...

Some areas of ND had low-30's overnight earlier in the week.

How's your weather been??

That's funny. Our weather is the same every day. Sunny, around 90 give or take ten degrees (but who notices).

Nights are cool, starting to get to where you need to grab a jacket when heading out to dinner, etc.

Little guy is playing Fall ball and the local weatherman's son is on the team. From what I can tell, the man has quite a job and works hard, but being from Ohio I have to wonder just how far he has to stretch himself everyday in terms of being a meteorologist. Considering the consistent sunny weather the area is known for, what does he find to talk about every day on TV?

We did have a hail storm two weeks ago. It was so bad it actually totaled one of our cars. It was quite the "weather event" and people are still talking about it. (standing in the shade from under a hat and behind sunglasses)

The first day of autumn last week turned chilly, there was a 25 degree change in temps within a 2 day period of time. We were sick so I lost several plants with the freeze. Then this weekend it made it to the 80s again.

Two nights ago, our low was once again at 50 and tonight it will be 27. Hopefully some of the tomatoes will make it. You'ld never guess that this is central New Mexico.

I don't have an account with Wells Fargo, but own some stock. The stock dipped a bit. I do understand how this could have happened. I haven't heard that any customers lost money - just that their deposits were used in a manner not disclosed to them. There could have been extra fees; I don't know. I fault management for setting up this situation. I saw something similar years ago in the company I worked for. We had a vice President who thought it productive (and fun to watch) to create competition and ill will among his working managers, the guys af the bottom of the management chain who are tasked with doing actual work and getting things done. It nearly wrecked the company. Instead of fostering an atmosphere of cooperation the company once had, it turned manager against manager. The production and maintenance engineers searched the system to find ways to shift costs to a different department. They found loop holes in the internal accounting system. One example: The factory ordered a batch of screws to assemble a particular product, however, due to an error in the orfering process, these parts were improperly heat treated and were useless, scrap in other words. Under normal circumstances, these parts would have been scrapped, new ones ordered, and the scrap loss would have been charged to the factory's budget. The factory was in one town and the development office was at another location 600 mile distant. The factory would enter a drawing change request for something very minor like a small change in the plating formula. This often happens when a vendor has a slightly different process, but one that is yet suitable. The home office approves the change and marks the box to scrap the older parts thinking there was not many and not knowing it was an entire lot for a week's production. Bingo! The scrap charges goes against the Development Dept.'s budget instead of the factory. In the accounting system, the cost of making the product has been artificially lowered. An accumulation of such shenanigans over the course of a year alters the true cost of manufacturing the product and its profit, which in turn, skews management's decisions about selling price and whether or not to continue to make the product, or to begin planning for a replacement or redesign. Upper Management was using certain pieces of data from the accounting system to calculate yearly bonuses to the line managers, and these managers were busily thwarting the accuracy of the system. It was a bad time to be working there. Thankfully, the executives caught on to what was happening and replaced this VP.

I grew up in central Texas, and one afternoon in late February, it was unusally warm - 88°. Somehow, I managed to get a Fargo ND radio station (weakly) on my car radio, and the weather report said that it was -12° at that time. I was completely shocked to hear that it was a full 100° colder in Fargo than it was in central Texas and that I could hear about it as well. I did not think that -12° weather was possible in late February in the afternoon, even in Fargo. That did not sound like a believable daytime temperature. I used to listen to WLS from Chicago at night, and so I was also surprised to get Fargo during the day. It was very freaky to me. Where I grew up was equidistant from Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas, and stations from those cities were difficult for me to get, although I would occasionally listen to San Antonio, which came in the strongest. I did not like the central Texas stations in Austin or Waco at all (I was between those two cities). Happy 57th!!!

It's called climate change. It's becoming a feature of a less moderate climate that is developing over time. More dramatic temperature swings, which of course also brings about more dramatic air movement, which influences wind and precipitation. Either see it as a worrisome and dangerous symptom of challenges to the way life has previously adapted to existing on the planet, or get used to it and hope some things manage to survive and thrive in the new conditions. Hard for us gardeners, when the zones have become unstable. Many plants' lives ruined by repeated onslaughts with no time to recover in between. Some of our best plant friends falling away. In particular, the Montmorency cherry tree, the cornerstone of my state's seminal sour cherry industry. Rapids swings between cold and hot are hell for fruit tree crops. Our peach crop has taken a similar hit, and even apples some years.

Wow! 97 in MN? We are warm today but 80s. We've had good rain totals this spring and everything is so lush. But thankfully, not days and days of rain. I love sunshine and really try not to complain when we do get hot/humid here, because I hate the cold!! I'm pretty good as long as our humidity doesn't get too high. Last summer was a good one, so I'm looking for this summer to not to be so much LOL!

Faron, I always love to hear your weather reports because I'm so jealous!

We had an extremely hot summer, full of 100+ degree days, starting back in early June. It gets this way about every 5 years or so, but darn it was hot.

Now we've had an early Fall and I'm thrilled! For the past couple of weeks it's been in the 60s and 70s, an ocassional 80, with lows in the 40s and 50s, and NO humidity! I'm in Oklahoma. Right now it's 67 in the house and I love it!

We get to open windows which is great. :)

Here in NW CT we'vebeen about the same as you this week Faron ;-) lows in (high) 30's, highs in the 60's, rain. We haven't turned on the breaker(s) for the electric heat, but our geothermal has been running in heat mode at night, drying out the air, and everybody's getting sick. DS was sick all week (I blame it on him getting wet and cold Sunday AM camping), DD is getting (again), and DH has been snorting the past few days. I just have a scratchy throat in the morning.

Did you see the thread thanking you for the Cetol recommendation? I'm thinking of using it (interior version) for my pine interior windows, the garage window looked so nice! BTW, Happy Birthday (mine was yesterday, not so happy, DH may have totaled our old car).

I have to ask - what's "uffda!" mean? I can't tell whether it's good or bad!

Our weather has been just about perfect! I'm in the south, and we had an unusually mild summer (el nino, I guess) with only a few days exceeding 90.

We're 70's and 80's now, cooler evenings, and some nice breezes. Loving it!

Weeellll since you asked, we had the best ever summer! No one can recall such lovely summer weather- we didnt use our AC but twice.Perfect 88 degree days and pretty dry and 60s or 70s at night. It rained weekly mainly during the week so we didnt need to even water the hanging baskets but a couple of times. Even the grass stayed green all summer! Even August was amazing, only a couple of 98degree and humid days, very very unusual for us. Usually July and August here are much like Florida hot and muggy. It seemed like September most of the summer! And September was glorious. This week has been sweater weather if you push it, 65-70. Tomorrow it is supposed to be rainy, of course, cause we need to drive over to our DDs college town so my DH can try to fix her car and if not get it towed back. So think of me, taking turns with DD holding an umbrella over DHs head as he works on her car!

Lower NY State here (Dutchess County). This past week it's been typical fall weather, which means cool and overcast with intermittent sprinkles. Just the way I like it. I made the first fire of the season last night in the wood stove insert and it was cozy and warm. Got on the sofa in my PJs with a cup of tea, a good book, and a snoring pug. Ahhh, heaven.

Had to break down & start the gas-furnace last night!
Our NWS outlook shows we'll be bumbling along in the 50's for highs the next few days...

Thanks - we were heading out to dinner on my birthday, twisting narrow road with no shoulder, DH thought someone coming other direction was over the line so he got over on the shoulder, road was eroded and had a chunk out of the edge, he hit it 40 mph, blew a hole in the tire. Rim's OK, broke a stud getting it off so my dad looked at it yesterday. Seems to be true, so I got 2 new tires mounted, they said replacing the stud would be more involved than the 1/2 hr they quoted me so I had them put wheel (and new tire) on with 3 studs/lugs, DH and my dad will pull it apart today and replace the stud (may have to replace bearing too if they damage it pulling the hub off).

No one hurt, we pulled off on the dirt a little farther, could have been worse. But I *really* didn't want to spend $200 on new tires for a car with 168,500 miles on it (esp. for my birthday - I could have spent that on the house!). Oh well, just did the brakes, so now it should be good for a couple more years.

DH said "Maybe somebody's trying to tell us something about this car." I replied "Maybe somebody's trying to tell us to stay off this road!" (I ran over something on that road and got a flat on the Explorer 2 yrs ago, but I needed new tires anyway). Then "Hon, if you want to get rid of this car, you don't have to run it off the road with the whole family in it LOL!" (DH wants a pickup truck, I told him he can trade in the Explorer but we need a crew cab and an 8 ft bed - I can't see getting 6 ft when I can fit 8-9ft boards in the Explorer if I go b/t the bucket seats onto the dash.)

"Oy" is the best translation I can think of for "Uffda" then too. Thanks for the explanation.

Hey!!!

Next Wed., we might get to 57 above!!! then back down again...Uffda...

Local weather-people saying there MAY be a couple flakes appearing early in the week.

Our weather in MN is more or less the same as Fargo's. Autumn is my favorite season, so I'm doing a happy dance!!

Fall arrived right on schedule. Forecast is for the low 70s all week. 60s are too cold, 80s are too hot but 70s are just right! Time to swap out the matelasse coverlet for the comforter, nights are getting a little nippy. Still, our lowest temps must equate to a heat wave where you live up there in the frozen tundra.

Our days have been nice lately, although a bit too windy yesterday for the International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta that's going on down in Albuquerque at the moment. I'm hoping it doesn't freeze too soon, as my gardens are still looking so pretty.
Faron, did you watch the game last night???? It was a good one!
